So I kinda set this project aside but, a guy phoned he has a code 4 i8 I can buy

What are MSA regulations is a code 4 car aloud to race in Hillclimb or track days?

You don't know what the underside looks like: Might have a very badly damaged tub or mounting points for the subframes might be shot

That damage to the side sill would worry - if this was a front on impact and it has sill damage then it may well have tub damage ($$$/impossible to fix)...

Just an update
Again a guy phoned me has an slightly damage i8 still code 2 and a good price, I'm hoping to look at it next week.

I've gone through all 6 pages and read all the advice carefully, I spent some more time with built race cars and this is by no means going to be an easy task!

Road car build, I think an i8 with a V8 S63tu in it would be amazing, no need for 1000hp lets do the Bolton's available and see where it ends up.

Racing car built from all the advice on this thread and spending a day at Zwartkops with all the bmw guys that still run this motor, I think nothing beets the S54. Tons of support in SA and would be much cheaper than any other V motor.

The S54 would also pay some homage to the original M1 procar that used a straight 6 motor..

Simola Hillclimb......
HUGE RESPECT for Pieter Zeelie for winning the 2021 Simola hillclimb with his little 900hp MR2!!

With not going into too many details i think every crazy option I have mention on this thread ive seen testing at last years hillclimb to complete this year. Im sure one of those lotus's had a full Nissan GTR drivetrain midmounted all and all.

To end.... The time and money it wil take to develop a i8 to complete with the top end guys in SA......I finally agree with all of you is just not worth it the challenge to build a i8 V8 is more that big enough for me!

Thoughts?

S63 would be great with bolt ons.

Would be lovely to see a B58 big turbo build in this as well.

Outlier would be a S65 with ESS G1 supercharger on it. 600hp+ and from what I've seen overseas, really reliable. I would get forged internals though for an extra safety net

Twin Turbo S65 1100hp in a tubeframe with an M4 DTM body over

Everything i need just need to move to motor to the back 😉

Honestly man, I would do a B58, they have easily made 1000hp with those, there's a reason it's one of the best engines on the market today. Speak to the guys at SavSpeed in Edenvale, they do racing BMW's.

Looks like pretty bad damage to the entire front subframe as well (hopefully not to the carbon where they bond the aluminium to the chassis) - I hope you've got plenty of amarok seats to sell to fund this project. But *extremely* keen to see how it turns out.

Carbon is not damaged most of the stuff that I would have replaced is damaged so it works out

My X3 M140i has the B58 motor, great motor just want to compare it to the S63

B58 weight and length
S63 wil be shorter but heavier

I also think development on the B58 has only just started where the next goal would be 2000hp whereas the S63 is a old motor with no real development happening now??
