Hi guys , looking at finally buying a new car after having my e36 for 6 years, a 2016 320D. The plan is to keep the car for quite some time, i don't do huge millage maybe 15k a year. So my question ,how reliable are these? i know the older n47 was good but not sure about the newer b47, I've read on these oversea forums and videos about having to register new parts and you cant just swap parts or buy aftermarket and something about adblue? I am also new to diesels in general, so hows the servicing and preventive maintenance on these? Are they easy to work on?

Thanks in advance

The B47 has proven to be reliable so far in my mother's 320d. She has had the car since new and it now has around 70k km on.

Time will tell how well it does after motorplan expires, but to date nothing has been replaced or repaired other that just doing general services.

The car is relatively easy to work on and servicing it yourself or doing minor repair work should be possible if you are somewhat capable of doing DIY jobs on cars.

Adblue is not installed on SA spec 320d's.

Service it every 7500KM OIL CHANGE. Gearbox service every 60 000 to 70 000kmand the car willlast you for many years

7500km oil services on a modern diesel sounds a bit excessive, although fresh oil can only benefit the car. I think proper warm-up and cool down procedures and 10-15k oil service intervals should keep the car healthy for a very long time

It depends on driving style and type of oil. Ive seen a few dealers pour petrol engine oil into diesel engine. For those that have studied oils and grades will understand what im getting to. Its not expensive for oil change and have regular specials. Diesel engine needs good clean oil for it produces a nice bit of torque.. My F30 320d when I traded it on 109 000km you could take a tourch and peak in by oil cap and engine was clean looked like the day I baught it and oil was not black.

My 330d baught it ob 75 000km and on 100 000km now and already I can se a difference in oil coulor after 3 oil changes.

Its up to the owner and what makes him happy.

Ok guys the car I was looking at got sold ... I dragged me feet for too long. I found another 320d it's a 2015 with 108k km for r245k ... Is it a good buy ? It has a SMG inovation warranty for an additional 2yrs 100000km.

I'm still quite hesitant as it's my first car. I will finance it for 5yrs @ 11.9% but plan to pay it off sooner, maybe 3yrs. My parents aren't much help as one is extremely conservative and the other says this is the one time on my life where I can spend my money as I have no house, wife or children so sorry for the noob questions, just looking for Abit more opinions....

Thanks again in advance.

Look the F30 320d is a good reliable car. You look after it and it will look after you. Also maybe there is some forum members that can help you to go have a look. Be sure to check all 4 tyres that they have enough tread.
