Could be valve stem seals. Will need to open her up to make sure though.
thanks, the car is going in next week, im a bit sceptical about my dealership, because they made an entirely incorrect diagnosis of the problem to begin with, im considering getting a dealership in the gauteng area to do the job,any recommendations?

hey guys, update on the post, turns out the smoke was caused by worn out valve stem seals...the seals are made of rubber and they had actually hardened and were letting oil sip through...the seal replacement kit from the dealership cost R655 and labour quoted at R6500:thumbdo:!! fortunatley i found a mechanic who specialises in all beemer repairs, who quoted R3000:thumbs:!! the repair required removal of the entire cylinder head, replacing the valves and resetting the valves, the job took 3and a half days to complete, and she is running SUPER CLEAN:joy:

Hi, I've got the exact same problem, and I also already replaced the crank ventilation valves. I’m currently struggling to find someone capable to sort out this problem for me.

Please could you forward me your mechanic’s details so that I can get my baby fixed.

Would sincerely appreciate it.

Thanks

Hi Guys.

Im having the same problem. Macky quoted me R4500 though and said its quite a job but with special tools it can be done without removing cylinder head and all that stuff... Is that possible?

He used to work for BMW and works from home now so guess he knows what hes talking about.

maybe, but i asked around 3 different experts including the dealership and all said the head had to be removed which is why the cost was so expensive...perhaps your macky can justify the cost of R4500(without removing the head)???

Was thinking exactly the same about the price. Maybe i'll stick around to see how he does it...lol...or maybe i misunderstood.

Hi guys,

Seems i have same problem too on e90 2005. Replaced cvv. Car still smokes when pulling off. One question! How likely is it that leak from stem seals can reach end of tail pipe cause i can see oil at the tail pipe. Second, what else do u need to change when they go into the engine? Cylinder head gasket?:argh:

How specialised is this job? Went to the dealership here in Lusaka, Zambia. The chaps say they have only done two and the first one gave them grief! They didnt inspire much confidence.

Glad it's sorted.

Its always best with a smoking motor to take it in to the dealers or a good mech shop to have it fixed..then trying to think what the problem could be
