Hi Guys, :praise::=):

Thanks for your quick response. My Brother has got a 320D and he was telling me he get 700+ KM on a full tank in Urban (Stop and Go).

Someone mentioned the issue of having run flats also adding to more fuel consumption, how tru is it?

I gather from the signature pic you are talking about an E90 M3. So in that case I would think your consumption figure is about right, and judging what members with M3's above have said too. My 330i sees a lot of town driving mostly, so my average consumption is around 11.2 l/100 km. With more open road driving my best overall consumption was around 9.3 l/100 km, and that was still with lots of spirited driving, so could be slightly better if intended.

With regards to the oil consumption, if it is similar to the way the 330i works, the electronic dipstick work on a 1 ltr change of level. So minimum level it should have a +1ltr or so message. So then you literally just add 1 litre of BMW spec oil and it should then register as full to the maximum level - might take a while to register the change. How often in terms of mileage are you having to top up?

Thanks for the detailed quick response. Actually its a 320i LOL :=): (M3 on my signature is work in progress, ONE day is ONE DAY). I normally top up after 2 full tanks (thats about 1000KM). however when i top up i only buy two pints. Would you recommend buying 5L, fill the oil tank and then start monitoring?

No problem! LOL, M3 is also a work in progress for me - so +1 for ONE DAY!!

That does seem to be high oil consumption although the agents with probably say that it is within spec if it's just more than a 1000 km between top-ups! Crazy! What oil are you using when you top-up?

I normally buy Castrol synthetic for oil. Am planning on filling the oil tank to the bream and monitor it.. M3:thumbs:

Has the oil usage always been like this? Make sure not to overfill, but yes, I would top it up to max and keep an eye on it.

my 320i with N46 LCi engine:

Full tank (63l) in town: 610km without using reserve, with using reserve 694km
Full tank (63l) highway: without reserve 795km, with reserve is unsure since i didnt take that chance before lol

Mized driving with the 63l tank, it depends, i can still get 550km easily without using reserve, i dont normally let the car go into reserve.

I get about 450 on my E92 M3, my average consumption is about 12.8.

:nonono: Why are you driving that car like that now? :roflol:

Haha my friend said the same thing, coz when I borrow my car to him, he's always scratching his head like how I get that low on average consumption haha... He does about 15-16 normal driving so yeah... call me a granny haha:roflol:

Hi.

My fuel consumption is concerning me at the moment.

I am getting 18.6L / 100KM or 5.5KM per Liter.

Short 2 - 5 km trips. AVG speed 24km/h.

323i 2008.

Can it be that it is a bit to rich ? Forsdicks is about 1km from me wonder if I should take it in for a quick diagnostics ?

Me previous one I usually got 600km in town...with this one I would be lucky to get 400KM.

Any advice ?

Further everything is good...

PS. what I notice on pull away until third gear the fuel consumption needle stays stuck in the 20+ range.

Yes yes, we know we'll run out of fuel first, but its how far ahead of you we will run out of fuel that counts.
:joy:

On an economy drive i get the 135i down to 9.5l/100km. Unfortunately when it come to spirited driving well that jumps up to like 14.5l/100km. If im lucky i get 400km per tank!

For short low speed trips these cars seem to be quite heavy in juice, well the 330i is. Also some good advice, try and avoid shirt trips where the engine does not get up to proper operating temperature - my opinion is that these short trips can lead to the notorious hydraulic lifter ticking which is an annoying problem! Also let the engine see higher revs over now and again.

But yes, these things don't like town driving or sitting in traffic - try this experiment next time you fill up: Reset the trip meter as normal, but also your average fuel consumption, then keep an eye on your average consumption figure as you drive off and for the first few kays. This will show you just how thirsty down driving in these cars can be, once on the open road or cruising this drops very quickly.

I took this clip on a warm Spring day last year showing my instrument cluster while driving around Durbanville with the engine from cold start. The average consumption is higher than usual because I had just filled up the day before - obviously more spirited driving, but you can see what the econometer needle is doing...

[video=youtube]

At the end of this tank from mostly town driving it settled at 11.6 l/100 km which is higher than normal for me, but I think fair for driving around Durbanville.
