I arrive at my destination in Epping. Park the car. Sort out my bussiness inside. Leave get in car. Start car. No power steering. Power steering comes back 5 seconds later. Reverse car and park. Call mech. Tells me I should just drive slowly. And if I loose PS to stop and pull over and get it towed. Get in car. Start car. Loud thump. which was the result of the above.

Now I'm sitting waiting for the tow truck road side assistance has organised. 40 to 60 mins. Siggggh FML. And my pulley is only arriving next month.

Out of curiosity, what's the mileage on the car at the moment? Lucky it didn't cause any nasty damage when it failed, and of course better that it failed when it did rather than while at speed on the open road for instance!!

Were there any noticable "signs" or "noises" now that you think back which could have been indicators? I'm asking cos i suspect mine is on its way out too and i'm driving to Durbs tomorrow

Yes there was a noise similar to that of a playing card hitting a bicycle wheel spoke like the kids do... vibration at idle. And I drove like this for 500 km then boom

Yeah im just glad it wasn't at speed on a bend or something. 106k kms remapped since 70k kms

Hmm, assuming that was the original vibration dampener, not too bad then. I think I would probably look at replacing this from every 50k km or so or inspect and see. Not sure how easy it is to detect other than the obvious signs of cracking.

Nah pretty sure it's the original pulley. Got the car on motor plan and it hadn't been changed according to the records. It's R6500 excluding vat from the dealerships. The one I ordered off eBay is a corteco which is supposedly OEM for R2800 shipped. And the seller agreed to ship it as a gift

That's not bad going then. Yep, costly part from the agents!

Yeah. I had already ordered the part off eBay on the 11th. And road side assistance covered the tow. So its not the end of the world. Rolf lent me their red 528i so atleast I'm mobile. I'm fetching the 330ds prop at 9. So hopefully it will be running by the end of today. But I doubt it. Still needs to be coded. And then hopefully the part for the 320d will be here by the end of the month or early next month.

Yeah the e34. Car has seen better days. I just need my car back already!

The aftermarket pulleys don't last long. The brand I have ordered is Corteco which is the oem manufacturer. I wouldn't fit anything else. And that online car parts place I would not use. Just search the forum about them.

Go to ebay.co.uk search BMW 330d crank shaft pulley. Look corteco branding.

I highly suggest you just buy it from BMW. I waited for 3 months for my part to arrive.
