Bmw e46 m3 2Jz help

Hi guys

I need some help or more some advice, I have acquired a e46 m3 manual with a bearing knocked engine

I was thinking about doing a 2Jz transplant, but I still want to keep the vehicle as original as possible, and want all the electronics and aircon etc to function

My biggest hurdle is the wiring I have come across wiring specialties, they offer the engine harness for a e46/2Jz, although shipping this harness is costly

What do you guys think?

I want the vehicle to be a daily driver I don’t want to play around with the 2Jz engine either, want it done properly and reliable, so I’m trying to do as much homework as I can before

You will be better off seeking advice from the knowledgeable US forums, possibly e46fanatics.com. I highly doubt you will find any useful info here as this forum lacks technical knowledge.
Check YouTube Speed Academy, they have rebuilt a e46 m3 s54 for their channel and are now busy on another e46 m3 fitting a 2jz using alot of the bolt on conversion hardware from Collins and other brands. Good luck.

If I was you I would buy an already swapped e46 then make sure it’s all working and swap things over as this conversion is gonna cost you 70k plus including the motor . Also since you have an m3 I would check the rear subframe and make sure the mounting points are not cracked

The only thing that’s a issue I think is the wiring, by the looks of the things I can source the 2Jz/E46 engine mounts, I want to keep the e46 gearbox and there are adapter plates for the 2Jz motor

Once I get it up on the lift I will be sure to check the rear subFrame, thanks Bud

Well if you using your Bmw gearbox keep this in mind

Your car was previously Na and you diff ratio is rather high for a turbo car so your shifts will be often I would change this to give you better boost between gears

You will need an adapter plate.

You will need a custom flywheel

Depending on power you will need a bigger clutch

You will need custom engine mounts brackets

You will need to modify your gearbox support

You will need to modify your shifter linkages

You will need to shorten your prop shaft

One of the issues with the wiring is the rev counter that stops working so take it to someone who knows there stuff

Yip would suggest changing your turbo since you at it cause you won’t know the condition of it so therefore you will need a right hand side turbo manifold. The left hand drive ones interfere with the steering rod to the rack

Then comes the ac piping and modification

Water piping

Turbo piping

Bmw steering rack to Toyota steering pump piping

Front mount Intercooler mounting

Oil cooler

Exhaust modification

Might also need to upgrade fuel system

Full service and change all belts. Check pulleys and replace water pump

There is a few area I have missed but these are the things to consider a great project but it is going to cost you unfortunately I see the motors selling for 35k on their own

If you planing on taking this somewhere to get done just make sure they have done it before to an e46. Check my build thread for a horror story of the car that was taken to the wrong place

Unfortunately this will be an awesome car but will never be able to fetch the same price as a stock m3

Why not see if you can find a S54 motor for a good price , and before fitting it have the bearings , water pump, pulleys, belts etc changed and you’ll have a proper M3

Any reason you still trolling on here if this forum lacks what you require?

Why don't you take your useless posts to those "Knowledgeable" forums

It's clear that the bakery is still open

Ha ha ha!

The irony....have no good input at all nor any value and refer the oke to another website and further down the line a great discussion happens.

It's possible it's not the forum that lacks anything, its actually YOU.

Cake lol

The the OP apologies for the derail. There are people who should assist, many of us let bygones be bygones, but it seems some are still waddling in their own Crap.

With that being said, a lot of members are also away fornthebfestive retreat so things will pickup thereafter.

Proof in the pudding...this place is chock-full of opinions and thats about it, we know what they say about opinions...
Most of the technical questions on here go unanswered but if you want your gumtree to have a comments section then it's the place to be. Sorry OP for knowing where you can get real answers on your m3 project, as expected this lot know better...

Not only do you lack tact and diplomacy but you are equally a miserable sod.

I should hate to know people such as you.
Be that as it may consider my observations as a statement of fact rather than an opinion.

So your best option would be to keep the stock management and wiring in place and then add an aftermarket management for the running of the engine, that way you keep all your stock functions without hampering the running of the engine indipendently.

Just something to note, whatever you plan on spending double that to get it done properly and reliabily.

If the engine hasn't thrown a rod out the block I would suggest finding a new crank, some forged pistons and new bearings and running a low boost setup on the S54.
