Just a quick update. I discovered my MAF is having issues.
On cold start ups I get rough idle, no stalls though. Unplugged the unit, smooth idle apart from higher idle before it settles a bit lower.
Took out the MAF an blew it out with air compressor at very low pressure. Its alot beter now but still not 100% sorted. Decided I will have a go with MAF cleaner. Any of you guys tried and had long term success with MAF cleaner?
Then I also noticed a intermittent rattle upon acceleration between 1800 & 2500 RPM. Thinking this might be the VANOS but not sure. The previous owner couldn't tell me what oil was previously used so I ended up buying 5W30 Castrol Magnatec. Can a Oil change/Thinner oil cause the VANOS to rattle? Didn't rattle before oil change.

Just realized I never gave feedback/final resolution on this thread.
Turned out to be the sump breather hose (going down from the oil separator/CCV (Crank Case Vent Valve)) which had a tear in it . Created a vacuum leak.
Replaced the hose and then power,idle & startup was restored.
The original hose & connector was very brittle.
The rattle I heard was an exhaust manifold bracket near the bottom next to the sump. So that's sorted as well and wasn't VANOS (thank goodness).
