Hi Guys

What are you guys best economical speed.

I set mine on 130km/h or 140 cruise control and believe that is the best currently with my rev needle on 3.5 or 4.

Between 80 and 100km/h

Sorry Zound. I mean in long distance drives. I do travel 80 to 100km/h to work.

Someone else told me his e39 530i are very economical on 150km/h.?

I do between 120/130 km/h.
My revs sit at around 2500, average fuel consumption is 11.5 km/l
I travel 90 km per day, mainly open road

I found dropping from 120 to 110 helps consumption a lot.

I had an E46 330i, gave it to my brother and then got an E90 330i. Lovely motors but economy a little of a ride.

I noticed that i get around

Highway driving

1. 8L/100km if i travel around 100km/h
2. 8.8L/100km if i travel around 120km/h

City driving

3. 10.3L/100km if i dont accelerate above 3.5k rpm and avoid stripping my ..... when a stupid small car thinks he is @#$%
4. 12.9L/100km on a day i don't care about fuel and push everyone with a L in the window

And i watched a video on when a guy did some eco runs above those speeds, he found

5. 11.8L/100km if travelling at around 150km/h
6. 13.6L/100km if travelling at around 180km/h

Yeez guys.

I think i rather stay on 130km/h for the 1000km distance down to the west cape.

Had to admit. When i leave Postmasburg and reach Brandvlei via upington on 93 petrol her range are normally on 115. When i use 95 petrol i reach brandvlei with 250 range still left.

Seems my car just needs a constant speed left on cruise control with the correct petrol like 95 octane and she do the rest.

Will test her fuel consumption again after i did some major needed maintenance on her in a month or two.

Thanks for sharing guys :praise:

I have both the 5 spd and the 6 spd version and the 5spd is the most economical at 105-110 where the 6spd is the most economical at 120.

I managed to obtain 5.8L/100 in the 6spd one the other night coming from south of JHB to the north of Pretoria.

I reset my consumption the moment I got on the highway at Beyers Naude, and stuck to 120 on the level surfaces, going up to 129 at the bottom of the downhills and only allowing it to drop back to 115 on the peak of the uphill. The journey was 85km long. No traffic, and no AC because it was rather cold.
The key is a steady foot.

@ FordKoppie ... The key is a steady foot.

We do trips to Walvis Bay from Cape Town twice a year, this is 1963km's (One way).

The most economical periods when driving are when a steady foot is kept on the pedal.

The 330i's tend to have enough low end torque to drive at about 2 800rpm for bets economy.

Travel safe!
