BMW E39 525i Consumption

Hi Guys,

I recently bought myself a 2001 BMW 525i Auto . The car is sill in an excellent condition , but the previous owner barely drove it since 2009 . The car's fuell consumption is absolutely crazy ! No matter how economical I drive , I never get it under 16l/100km , even after I took it for a good belting on the freeway to clear it's lungs !

I took the car to a BMW mechanic today , who plugged in his computer which said that the car has a faulty Air flow sensor and cam exhaust sensor . He qouted me more than R 3000 for the Air flow sensor .

Does anyone know where I can find these parts for a reasonable price in the Gauteng area ? I love the car , but if it continues to be so thirsty I will have to sell it

Hi

Thanks a lot , I called the guy you reffered to me , but he said he was backed up with a lot of cars to fix . I found a BMW mechanic in Pretoria West , he gave the car a complete service and also changed the exhaust cam sensor . The car now drives a lot better but the consumption is only down from 17l/100km to about 15l/100km . Its still very heavy !

My E39 is a garage queen, on the open road I've got it down to 7.2 L/100km, city driving it sits between 11-13L/100 km depending on my foot
