Here are some pics that Uber Soldat took, this was when I first got the car, it had a dead gearbox and a million other things wrong with it. only paid 9K for it.
I've fixed ALLOT of stuff since then. and it also looks a little better now. sorta fixed the bumper brackets, and replaced the indicator lights and all that stuff.

there is probably a few things I don't remember replacing but here are some things I do remember..

it has now ..
New brake system all round, R 7800 (BMW)
2nd hand gearbox, R6500 (TV2)
5 new tyres, R 4600
new full clutchplate style freeflow exhaust, R 2000 .. old one was holy :)
2 new doorlocks,ignition,key,ignition wiring, R 1500 (Bemow)
new water pump with metal impeller R 1200 (Bemow)
propshaft Center bearing, R1200 (BMW)
Alternator Rebuilt, R950
oil change + filter, R 850
front control arm bushes, R 700
new coolant accumulator R 650 (C&R Auto)
Replacement mags, R 500 (Uber Soldat Wheel&Tyre Warehouse)
gearbox oil, R 500
replacement V belts x2, R 499
rear boot spoiler, R350
2x brake wear sensors, R 250
4litres premix coolant, R200+-
guibo for propshop, R150 (bemow)
lower door beading, R 150 (bemow)
new custom made gearbox coolant pipes, R150 (HydroPart)
bumper brackets, R 120 (Bemow)
air filter, R 110

2 litres brakefluid for flush and refill, can't remember
2 litres CHF11.S for PS, ? can't remember
indicator covers+lights, can't remember

as you can see I was targeting all the mechanical stuff first. most important of course.. there is allot of things I still wanna do to it, including new suspention now, it needs shocks ..

also when kids in my street took 3 wheelbolts off the back left wheel, and it fell off at 160km/h .. I replace the entire trailing arm, 2 times :(, first bought the wrong trail arm for R1700. then I bought the right one for 1K
along with 3 rear calipers, one was wrong, one was warped, other one was right :) they were about R300 each. I think total for that episode was another R3600. DAMN KIDS !!!! If I EVER FIND YOU AGAIN...

I will take pics later again, these pics are when I first got it before I did anything.

I am now planning a paintjob of Estoril Blue, with cinnamon and black interior. entirely redone.

I know I've spent allot of money on it, and I could have bought a cheaper one, but this cars engine is in 150% good condition, it revs/goes like nothing I've ever seen. NO ticking, NO smoking, NO noises, and it has 296K on it ! good old BMW reliability ...

this is the colour I want..

Estoril%20Blue.JPG

it might change to Avus Blue .. but I think its a tad too dark

thats me for now .. will work on the car again when I am back in jhb.

Jandre ;) but I like the Estoril :/ .. its sooo prettyyy ..

Werries M5 :D shot man ! lol, same here.. thats why I wanna paint it Estoril Blue.. its by far one of the hottest colours !! .. I hope my engine lasts forever ! it still seems strong, I'll have the heads flowed/ported at some stage, I wanna see what it looks like in there, but I think its still good for many km's.. gonna try fit a BIG single turbo on there, or maybe two very small ones.. try see if I can harvest some fuel milage out of it.

LOL, LZ ! Its really funny how the M60/M62 is #1 for 5 years straight on Wards 10 best engines..
excellent..

Hi,

E34 540I 1994 Auto, white with blue interior, 178K on the clock, bought it recently for 15K, it is my second BMW the first one was a couple of years ago E34 525I with the M20 motor, wrote it off due to excessive Rum consumption the one Saturday night on a dark road north of Pretoria.
The 540 still has a bit of work to be done so will post pics later.

There's nothing to port.......... no seriously, have you taken a good look at M60/62 heads?

I can push two large straight sticks through the valve openings and out the ports, both intake and exhaust.......for a factory job it's moer impressive.

The walls of the ports are only about 3mm thick to the water jacket anyway, you don't want to go removing metal there.

Ask me sometime for the trick to get more airflow into an M60.... something they did on the 2.0 golfs and damn it works lol.

I have never dynoed my E34 540 but I know it utterly anihalates my stock E39 540.... I'm guessing much much more than 210Kw that's why I drive it every day, addictive. It's not a torquey motor, actually if feels kak till 4000rpm and then it's all like WOW. Best thing I ever did in my life was the rebuild on that M60 with a few well researched tweaks:)

Rick540,

how about you share some of that info because I am planning on overhauling my old engine and do a couple of mods to it while I am busy - basically I am not looking at speed but more power since I am towing a caravan almost every second weekend. the 540 does have enough power but we all know how it goes - the more power we have the more we want
Any ideas, can we take it up on a different thread or what do you suggest.

Rick540i ! dude, your right hey, my E34 also just feels like the highend wastes the E39.. its INSANE. those M60 motors are kak strong.. but I would love to chat, I havn't taken an M62 appart yet but I was just planning on those mods... still gotta see whats acctually possible I guess. will prolly just polish if its allready big enough :) .. the valvetrain components I'm gonna use allready provide for higher revving and bit lighter weight so I guess I don't need to do TOO much to the head.. but you know how it is .. always wanna push to the max.
would love to chat, but like I say, I havn't acctually taken one of these appart yet, just seen pics and specs and such..
