Bmw E30 M44 Conversion Help

Hi Guys ,

Has anyone done a 1991 bmw e30 318 M44 conversion ? Is it true that i need to get a M42 Sump ? My m44 engine is already out and im at the point of no return ? also any advice on the wiring ? Ima bit of a newbie to conversions and this Forum. Help will greatly be appreciated .

Hi,

The E30 318I had a M40 motor in it (cambelt driven) or if it is the old chrome bumper then it had a M10 motor. Are you sure you going to want to do this. If you are going to fit a M44 or M42 engine it would have probably come from a E36 which has EWS immobilizer and you would need the harness and computer box for this, unless you going to get a stand alone ignition system.
What is wrong with old motor? Or do you just want to upgrade the motor.

Just my 5 cents worth.

Thanks for the reply. The e30 doesnt have an engine.I bought the e30 body from someone. I have the m44 engine from a bmw e36 with complete harness and dme.My intention is to use the original computer box.

Thanks much . Saw that posts dont know if I read it while daydreaming.but thanks read it carefully now. Im doing a 2jz swop in one of my bm's but sumps are giving me headaches. M44 require a sump and 2jz .
