I have a 1991 BMW 318is E30 m42; is there a trick setting the cams and valves trays? I have set them by the book and it seems to hit a quarter turn clockwise and it sounds like a heavy metal hit it won't roll through and I don't want to force it. Does anyone know what the problem is? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you,

David H

Sorry to go off track but regarding your purchase on FCP Euro any idea on the custom charges etc or will that only be viable once they arrive ?

Been meaning to purchase some parts as I like their life time guarantee but been holding back as I don’t want to find myself regretting why I didn’t by local.

If you'll drop a line to FCP Euro, they are good people and they will answer your question right off the bat. Sorry I can't tell you on what you were asking but I'm sure that they would be able to.

I thought about that, dropped back and bought the cam and cranks at tools from FCP Euro. Should be here in a couple of days any other suggestions if that's not it?

The car's been sitting for about 20 years, my daughter cracked the head when I was on vacation. I retired and decided I would fix it bought ahead rebuilt the bottom end put the head on, started doing the cams. Decided to roll it all the way through to make sure I was right since it's a interference motor, when clockwise on the crank turning it and it went a quarter turn and made a heavy metal sound, I decided to stop and ask questions because I don't need to bend any valves. Bought a m42 cam setting kit to make sure that I was correct, it should be here in a couple days.

Afternoon, I have a question of my fellow mechanics or E30 owners or more. I am building the bottom of the dash and was wondering if anybody had pictures of under the dashboard components go. If you have some pics it would really help getting things back to where they really belong, thanks for
the help in advance if you got it thank you again. David m
