BMW Combox Retrofit Help

Hi Guys,

Need some help, saw this is the best and only forum that has people that know their stuff! Big ups to @yusufm786 already that has helped me out alot!

I have a F30 316i 2014 Model, and it came with the 6NH (Standard hands free kit and usb) and the 606 Nav (Business Nav with the slightly bigger head unit, not the NBT).

Just paid R800 to have me maps updated at BMW the other day, and the guy said, with my current spec, he has to reprogram the vehicle and the maps in order to update it as it has no HDD etc. Took nearly 2.5 hours sigh :/.

Now unfortunately I dont have a combox neither the NBT in order to start coding for EBT :-( ... And i solely use my iphone 6s for apple music to stay up to date with the music world. And also ive got absolutely nothing under the connected drive, and would love to have the apps, internet etc.

I managed to find out where I can purchase a combox and was getting a deal at R2500 per box, is this more or less what we pay for it now a days? The guy also said you might as well get a parrot because to retrofit this you will need to strip your vehicle and to find wiring and do the wiring is a nightmare. This made me skeptical or so :(.

This true? Does anyone of you know where I can get it retrofitted? Also to save the warranty in the process? I asked the tech at BMW and he said they can do retrofits for combox's but said cost is around R14 000 :/ ... madness...

Also read that if you retrofit the combox, you lose the TCUF/MULF or something like that, whats the deal there?

Was really wondering if anyone here knows of people who can get this thing up in my car by me just bringing the box to him. (Ofcourse i would pay for his/her services).

Thanks guys, any help will be much appreciated.

Hey..... Contact Gert from OBD Worx...he's a whiz at this stuff. He is one of the forum sponsors, so you can pick up his details there.

Yeah, Combox retrofit on an F car is no joke. There is a lot of rewiring to do to get it to work correctly hey, especially as the Combox is mounted in the boot.

And yes, I always advise against doing this if the car is under MP, as you really can put your plan at risk.

But yes, secondhand comboxes are around that price. In fact I have one here for you. Installation, on the other hand, won't be cheap.

Thanks for the responses guys! I saw a thread on a Canadian bmw fanatics website on a step by step instructions to have it retrofitted.... Did look like a story but seems relatively possible! Fingers crossed!

I may be wrong, but wouldn't retrofitting NBT be a much simpler solution. NBT Has combox built in after all...

If the pros say it's a mission... Then it's best I retract this idea from me head xD
