The fuel consumption on both those cars are...to be polite...not good!

I dont think you would see them under 12l per 100km very often.

So if your worried about fuel cons, your looking at the wrong cars.:tease:

Fuel Consumpsion - Highway 10.97
Fuel Consumpsion - Urban 20.18
Consumption Annual Average 14.3

540i

and if you look at the 530i? or 730i?

more or less the same or is there a big drop in consumption?

so you saying it will never go below 12l?

i read somewhere about fitting some III injectors???

Yeah the average is over 14L per 100 and trust me they drive nicely when they test these cars.

Those are close to 2 ton cars with a V8 motor, cant be light if you think about it, and you will find mainly automatics that dont help the fuel cause neither.

Dunno anything bout injectors..

Fuel Consumpsion - Highway 9.7
Fuel Consumpsion - Urban 17.85
Consumption Annual Average 12.65

530i

They heavy cars and older motors so fuel cons not good on any 8 or 6 cylinders.

new f30 320d is out so the e90 320d will drop in price plus bmw had a trade in assistance on the e90's and that doesnt help depreciasion neither. Nothing wrong with motors on 320d...

If you buy privately you will need to transfer the motorplan at about R2000 or thereabout, but you will get better deals privately than the dealerships.

On a 2000 model.. is the motorplan still valid? or do u take out after sales motorplan like motorite?
How long does the bmw factory motorplan last?

Motorplan is valid for 5 years or 100 000km, which ever comes first, can be extended before it ends, at a premium price.

So a 12 year old bmw wont have this plan anymore?.

No, but a well cared one wont need it, parts for the E46's are relatively easy to come buy, and not that expensive to maintain.

You will also note out of motorplan ones are cheaper on purchase price.

shop around, have them checked out by a expert and you will have many happy miles and smiles.

The only time an old 540/740 will show 10L/100km is on the open road while doing between 100-120km. My 540 gets 21L/100km in town driving. My average is now at around 16l/100km. Fantastic car though. The big motor is so smooth. It idles at around 600rpm and it has no problem plodding around at under 1000rpm (no shuddering or groaning like you get in small motors when revs are to low). And then obviously you have the V8 noise
Mine is a manual which you'll see is pretty hard to find and I don't think you get 740's with manual boxes unless it's been converted.

I think Jandre on the forum might be looking at selling his 97 or 98 540. Very good car and worth a look.

If you're looking for something with great power and good consumption then a 530d might be a better option. You should test drive one and see.

Wats the consumption on a 320 d and 530 d..

Only junk is...u loose the bm sound in a diesel..... wat as a man will afshow innie pad oppa vrydag aaaand

you might not have the growl of the straight 6's or the V8's, But with 135kw and 380nm torque doing 6l/100km in town, I love my diesel all the way .

There is no such thing as a 730i in SA.
Only 740 and 735 and the latter is a piece of junk. It consumes the same fuel as the 740, costs the same to maintain and is slow.

Also remember that in 1995 only the e34 540 and 530 were available. No e39.

It seems like your model search gets wider with each post:fencelook:
