Hi there,

I just loved the article. My very frst BMW was a 1978 BMW 528A (gun metal grey with white leather). I bought this car in 1981. My friend had a similar color car but it was a 1979 530 model. The motorsport decals were small stripes along the side with the words "BMW Motorsport" I dnt know what happened to his car but I sold mine to buy a 1979 BMW 730 A (ruby red with white leather). I the realised as a 21 year old guy I must have been looking real out of place. i then bought an E30 320 M ex. Im driving BM's ever since.

Thanks, Bouts. The 530 you are referring to was obviously the later non-lightweight version, but nonetheless a lovely car. They had the standard M30 straight six (unmodified) and a four speed box. They were available in a "Luxury" version and a "Motor Sport" version. The Motor Sport version was only available in silver with blacked out chrome (shadowline effect), and the Scheel seats were black with the Motor Sport stripes on them. They never had any stripes, so your friend must have added them. These cars are also very rare today, and the Motor Sport version was a real stunner.
