Hi guys,

Just need some advice.

I have a BMW 320i e90 2010 facelift, the issue with the car is I bought it with the engine changed. The issue I'm facing is I notice the wiring does not add up colors of the wires are different from each other. When both vanos are plugged in at the same time the engine immediately misfires but when one is unplugged the car is able to run but with a slight timing issue so the car will over rev when changing gears there's also a big issue with the car lacking power on the high end. I've done research and the original engine that came with the car is a n46t engine, the current engine in the car is a N46b20 from 2007 this leads me to believe that the wiring is from the previous engine.

Anyone here with strong engine knowledge?

Would the car require a change of ecu or a wiring harness change ?

Any advice would be highly appreciated.

Hi,

I'm from Pretoria. Mileage on the car is currently at 155 000km but unsure at this point because the engine was changed by the previous owner and not sure if the new engine was higher mileage.

AAh, ok.

Sounded like my old car here in CT before i flogged it.
I had the head done.... twice and was constantly giving issues.

the std answer most guys will give you is "get the codes read"
could be spark plugs, the vanos solinoids, MAP,MAF sensor, cam sensors or even the cat that can cause all hell.

Flog it:thumbdo:

Those E90 320i engines are notoriously troublesome. I had a brand new one when they came out, and sold it without problems 3 years later. But in the years ahead they gave endless problems. I'm sure other contributors here will confirm what I'm saying. A few ran without a hitch, but that's just a few.

That said, you may love that car for personal reasons, so if you do, I hope you find someone who can fix it
