technical Bmw 120d E82 2013 - Diesel Injector Type

Hi guys.

I need help with some info, I’ve looked everywhere and have yet to find the info I am looking for.

Diagnostics revealed that injectors 1 and 3 have a leak.

I’d like to know what type of diesel injectors the E82 120D use ? There are two types I’ve been told from multiple sources: West Rand Diesel, Angels and Sons, Rodac Diesel, Ross Duncan, Goldwagen and BMW Clearwater.

Unfortunately they cannot tell me what type the injector is (which is very very strange)

The two types are:
1) Piezo type injectors which is apparently non repairable.
2) Generation 1 common tail type which is repairable.

I’ve tried diesel injector additives in the tank and it was temporarily solved but every now and again car has rough idle on start up for about 2-5 seconds then normalises. This happens let’s say every 3-5 days.

Would really like to address this asap to prevent it getting worse etc. Car feels great and smooth other than the rough idle.

Any info on the type would be great as well as if there are alternative suppliers who can supply the correct part.

Goldwagen gave me a part number based off my vin which didn’t correspond to the part number I got from BMW.

Thanks for any info and apologies if my responses are slow.

Ps I’ve attached the part image from Goldwagen freely available. Also attached parts from eBay. Red one is from a bmw 120d e82 2009 model with the supplied vin number on eBay. The black one is from a 2007 model also with the supplied vin number I popped into realoem.

Hi maybe try and recon them. In Joburg there is a place I used. I sent my Hyundai i20 crdi diesel injectors to them. Many people in Durban failed to recon them. U can contact Neeltjie (072) 602-1344

Good Morning

On my 2013 120D E82 the injector part number from BMW was P13537797877. They are very expensive, I paid R9800 each in 2021.

As far as I remember it is fitted with Piezo injectors.

As soon as you are sure which injector you need, I would phone a BOSCH repair centre and buy from them.

Thanks Swiegie. I found some extra info today which shows that they are common rail fuel injectors 😂 so now I have conflicting info to go on. BMW quoted me R13k per injector.

That’s the part number I got as well from BMW. It differs from Goldwagen however BMW confirmed that the Goldwagen variant will work. So it’s odd they differ as you won’t mix and match different types since it won’t work.

Goldwagen also confirmed via phone this morning, that they are common rail type and some sources online say the same. I will still make sure of course.

Plan is to get the injectors out and test and see what is the prognosis and then take it from there. As I get info I’ll share in case someone else is in the same boat.

Thanks gents.

* Update : Confirmation from RK Motion / Eastside Customs that the N47 for the e82 uses Piezo injectors.

@Swiegie what was the mileage of your car more or less when you replaced injectors if I may ask? Mine is currently sitting on 125k

Good Morning

I do not have my file on hand, but if I remember correctly it was done at about 145k.

I have noted that you are mentioning rough idle on startup. I had uneven idling on start up since about 90k km's. This was mostly evident on cold mornings. The car also gave a big puff of smoke on start up. BMW agents could not resolve the problem.

After replacing the injectors I still had the same problem. At about 150k, I had the glow plugs, glow plug control unit and intake manifold replaced. Two of the glow plugs was completely dead and I assume the control unit was no longer functioning correctly. After these parts were replaced, my car is running perfectly. Even on very cold mornings, no smoking, perfect idling.

As a note, the intake manifold was replaced just in time, as the swirl flaps was busy cracking due to age.

Phone a Bosch service centre for prices on the injectors, when I was shopping for injectors for my mom's X1, they were cheaper than Goldwagen.

Let us know the outcome.

Agree on the Bosch service centre.

There is a company called Bosch Diesel Service Nes Diesel in Eshowe KZN (035 474 1278). They are absolute specialists with injectors and do alot of the work for Jhb and Durban based clients. Worth giving them a shout.

Thanks for this info. I have a puff of smoke as well on startup. Never thought of the glow plugs and I take manifold. So this might be helpful.

@///M Individual thanks as well. Will give them a shout too if I don’t come right with Bosch.

Phoned them yesterday and believe it or not the branch I phoned weren’t as helpful. Will give others a call.

Will keep you guys posted.

Thanks again !!

Hi Swiegie.

So I had to do front brake pads as well so couldn't find any place to help with proper quality pads. That took me to the dealership where I asked for them to do a diagnostics for me to look at the injectors.

They could not pick up any fault and report shows the injectors are within spec. I tend to believe them because they could have tried to make money from it.

Anyway your info I think was helpful as I’m thinking the only culprit left could be intake manifold.

Next service is almost due. Ive done about 10000km since my major service last year mid September so keen to see what BMW will charge me for a new one with a minor service. I’ll possibly check to replace the glow plugs too as preventative maintenance along the module.

They did mention they suspect that the DME (digital motor electronics) could also be faulty but couldn’t confirm it.

Sorry for the lack of update. Got so busy and forgot. Always annoying where there is a thread with no conclusion.
