Bluetooth retrofit

I've got a 2007 z4 3.0si (E85). Unfortunately it doesn't have bluetooth.

Has anybody tried retrofitting a BMW bluetooth system? I've already got a couple of bluetooth buttons (steering wheel + dash) and ideally would like to be able to use them and avoid putting one of those ugly control units on my dash.

Any advice? Can BMW do retro fit bluetooth?

They can.
Extremely costly.
I was looking at a website today and found a plug and play into that fits into the 12v connector. It was $89 on the website and is a BMW unit, I will find out more about it and let you know.

check in the trunk compartment and see if you have the Cables for the factory Bluetooth module, if you do, then rather just source a factory module and Microphone... then you should be sorted, oh yes, Bluetooth aerial as well... if the cables from the trunk are there.. then you most probably just need the Module and Mic...

Don't you already have bluetooth if you have the buttons?

Check your VIN, if you have this "S644A HANDY VORB. MIT BLUETOOTH-SCHNITTS. Preparation f mobile phone w Bluetooth" then you have bluetooth

You can also also check the build sheet of your vehicle to see if you have cellphone preperation, then plug and play.

I am going to do it. Agents want R7500 just for BT unit excluding fitting.

Mine has a mic visible but a parrot kit installed. The parrot control unit isn't there because there's an interface for it to use the steering wheel buttons etc. So it's controllable from the steering wheel, but idrive doesn't know about it. Easy enough to confirm it because when you scan for bluetooth devices you see a parrot one.

But buying the parts from a scrapyard will cost you under 2, and 5 weekends of fiddling will give you a serious sense of pride..

by any chance do you have a CD Changer in the trunk ?, if you do, then it will be along the same harness...

All the face lift z4 e85's with steering wheel controls have the bluetooth bottons, even if you didn't elect the option. My wife's 525 (e60) is the same. Just some dud buttons reminding you of what you don't have.... Must have been cheaper to standardise the molds.

On the z4 the CD changer / shuttle sits between the back rests of the two seats, not in the trunk.

I've read on other forums that if your z4 is prepped for BMW assist it definitely has all the support wiring for bluetooth.

I'll have a look in the trunk compartment whether I have the cable referred to.

Look into the MoBridge Options. There is a few options, see what suites you. I think Rivonia Carsound sources them and fits them.

agreed,i got my MULF and mic from a scrapyard for under R1100 then you still need coding done which should not be charged more than R800.In my case all the factory prewiring was already done.

its a bit more of a pain to do DIY,but the sense of achievement of screwing BMW over on a R6000 extra feels much sweeter

If your car came with the"car phone with cordless receiver" part that just means it can charge your phone but doesnt mean you have Bluetooth function.You can check if your car has telephone preperation by visiting this site http://www.rubmw.ru/vincode/eng/ then let me know if you have this option "S640A AUTOTELEFONVORBEREITUNG Preparation f tel.installation universal"

if you do then it should be straightforward,you will need the MULF/TCU,bluetooth antenna and mic.I cant recall what the part numbers are for the MULF/TCU.but if you can post photo of the connector in your boot if you do have telephone prep that would help too
