Bike Riding Lessons

The best experience is saddle time.

If you can, get yourself a Jap 600cc supersport - something like a Yamaha R6, Honda CBR600, etc. Then start riding. The more you ride, the easier it becomes.

Once you have a few months of riding and get used to the bike, attend some track days - register in the beginner classes. Normally 600cc is the minimum for most track days. Hence, my recommendation on them. Don't underestimate their performance though, even at a mere "600cc", they are still potent.

If you're a beginner, a single track day will probably give you 3 months of road riding experience and confidence - in a day.

Then take it from there. After a few track days, you'll have much better road riding confidence and be in a position to decide what to do next, in terms of your bike, your riding type, etc.

Enjoy and be safe. Remember that your clothing/gear is very, very important as well.

OP, make sure you test a couple of different types of bikes before deciding which route to go.

Sports tourers/commuters (FZ6R/Fazer) are often overlooked as the R6 looks more appealing, but in reality a superbike/supersports setup and riding position really isn’t to everyone’s liking. When I had my R1 I quickly realised that I actually bought the wrong bike as I actually enjoyed bikes such as the FZ1, Kawasaki Z1000 etc. more.

Sports tourers will also maneuver easier due to a more upright riding position.

So you drive an M3 GTS (not available in SA) with EU plates (clearly on European roads as well) and your location says SA, yet now you want bike lessons? Would this be in SA, Europe or on the moon?:fencelook:

The opening poster asked a valid question and you reply with this? Something completely unrelated, irrelevant probably insulting?

And then you try and justify it by saying he may be trolling? Trolling with asking a valid question? :dunnoanymore:

The man apologized, which is more than I can say for quite a few other members on here, when there has been a lack of judgement in the past.

They both moved past it and actual constructive advice was given to the OP. Your comment makes me --> :dunnoanymore:

He apologised citing trolling as a reason for his response yet he was trolling on the OP's thread?

And, so what if he apologised and moved on?

@K_S And so, no need to dredge up something that was obviously moved on from by both parties, that had nothing to do with you. Surprised I need to spell this out to you, but clearly comprehension isn't a skill you are gifted with. There was a valid question in that response, albeit under the guise of 'trolling' (just in case you missed it, it was about the OP's location).

Also, judging from how long you have been on the forum and the quality of content you actually bring, it's clear the level of value you offer. Suggestion would be to rather focus on adding value, instead of comments that are late to the (finished) party. Use it or don't, I am done here.

Thanks for making me waste 30 seconds of my life, that I won't get back.

Right or wrong K_S is entitled to his statement.

FerdiBotha has trolled his posts in the past. Sure people troll here, yet the response offered by FerdiBotha initially (for which he has since apologised) isn't and wasn't in the spirit of the forum.

People have nemeses - K_S and FerdiBotha might just be that. Why add fuel by getting into that. I personally agree with K_S, and have not said anything cos like you I accepted the apology offered.

Anyhow - thanks for the topic OP. I, too, am keen to get on a bike - Randburg Bravado is a great lead

Shouldn't you at least ride a bike to give advice on bikes?

:fencelook::tiptoe::smilebounce:

Just kidding H!

As for OP - I say go big. As per everyone else - you will adapt and get used to it super quickly and you won't regret it!

25k is not too much for a bike nowadays - but it all depends on who had it, how they looked after it, etc. etc.

Good luck with your hunt!

Thank you the info.

Riding position is the main thing for me as I have had a little hunchback for many years and I doubt I can be in a bent position for long period.
Tomorrow I will check out fire it up bikes in Sandton and hopefully decide on which one to purchase.
Thank you for the info.

Is 25k km`s on a bike too much ?

Also look at Fire It Up in Fourways, they have some really clean bikes that come with a warranty and service plans.
