Best BMW ever made

I did try and search this and only found best engine and best made up concept.
What I want to know is what do you think is the best BMW ever (mass) produced and why? Not the car that put BMW on the map or was a huge sale success or ahead of its time. The realistically perfect BMW that you want to own. The best combination of speed, handling, comfort, style, affordability, diy friendliness etc.
Feel free to add a picture of your ultimate BMW.

Funny how you say it should be in showroom condition, and then post two heavily modified cars...

e36 M coupe.
Just thought about it.
All the good things of the e30/e36 M in a tight little body you can wear around your hips.
Need to drive a Z4M actually. I'll go hunt one this weekend me thinks. Need a reference,

I vote for the E39 as well. Everything before it wasn't quite as good and everything after it was too fussy and complicated in design and execution. Just the right size as well. The fives before it were too small and the ones after were too big. They are not that much bigger than the contemporary E46 and gets almost the same fuel consumption, but they are way more refined. The perfect choice.

Enough said. I am starting to sound like Goldilocks. Let this picture do the talking.

not to sound biased... but i think E46's and E39's.... these would fall into the last of the truly well built and trimmed cars..

the evolve from e36 to e46 was great, but i've got my reservations on the e90 upwards...

:sorry:

have owned/driven

E23
E28
E32
E36
E38
E39

The one I truly enjoyed driving the most was the E36, follwed very closely by the E39

For me it goes as follows:

1. The cars :

The M1 E26, which is one of the most beautiful cars I have ever seen and I have lusted after one for years.
The E24 635CSI, which I am currently looking to acquire in SA ( and without much success!).

1. The Bike : The new liquid cooled R1200 GS, which is definitely the best all round bike that I have ever owned and still impresses every time that I ride it!

For me it's a toss up between the e30 m3 and the e39 m5. I have personal experience with the m5 and one day when I'm big I will own one. I still dream of an S62 swap in my E36....
I can only dream of driving an e30 m3 and will need to go abroad to forfill my dream...

The most exiting was certainly the CSL M3, but it was flawed in more than one way, eliminating it for the award of best BMW ever.

The best BMW ever made is the one that's paid off:tiptoe:

The e39 M5 is very close to the top, but its also flawed.

Perhaps a 330i e46.

......nah, make it the e34 540i/6 :skit:

Some great cars here, but I was thinking more in the line of Gizmo's answer. State a specific car in your chosen model range. So all you e39 mafia threatened guys, which one?

Definitely a 330i e46.

Fixed it. :tiptoe:
