Best BMW ever made

The e46 M3, had the highest specific output naturally aspirated of any engine ever made by BMW (except in the McLaren F1), producing 343 metric horsepower (252 kW; 338 hp) and 365 N·m (269 lb·ft).
The BMW M3 remains the only car ever to have earned more titles than the venerable Porsche 911 in Motorsport, and also is the most successful touring, and grand touring car ever to have participated in racing. The BMW M3, especially the E46 M3, has been regarded as the "Best, all-around car to ever have been made"

If only BMW had built the E39 M5 touring...Guess I could build my own, would be the ultimate car for me.

Saw this one at the Engen up the road from my house, waited for the owner but he must have been inside the shop (Perhaps on here?).
Would love to own one of these one day!

i love this //M Coupe, its by far better looking than the Z4M to me...a few years back i was offered the same blue one at R140k

The E30 for me was ahead of it's time. It had no direct competitor at the time & even now in 2015 they actually hold their age VERY well. They not rust buckets (relatively...compare a RWD Toyota for eg), have 'some' electronics which oddly still work, comfortable drive, timeless looks...I can go on
But besides the mass produced E30's what about the E28 & E34 M5 as well as the E36 M3 as previously mentioned.
Who else gave that kind of performance of over 200kw to the masses like M division did on such a large scale? A more expensive Porsche of the same era could get one hell of a hiding from some old guy in his big@ss E34...that must have been INSANE back then!!
Nobody gives you that anymore, if you want power you gona have to PAY now. Gone are the days of true pocket rockets.
Btw the E36 was definitely built better than the E46 IMO, it just feels more solid

Besides the E39, there is the E12 5-series. It was the first modern BMW and it put the company on the map. The money they made out of that went into the first 3-series - the E21 which was never sold here. And that was the start of the good times.
Long before that, there was the Neue Klasse of 1962. If it wasn't for that BMW would have gone bank. The mix of upper crust cars and weird little things with motorcycle engines they were flogging took them to the brink.
