Congrats on the G80 my bro. From what you described, I think the G80 better suits your needs considering you've got a growing family. You'll be able to use it a lot more compared to your G87.

Without a doubt, the G87 is a very special car and its well balanced. G80/1 > G87 > G82 > G83. I would love to own one eventually in BSM and park it next to my 140.

Looking forward to seeing G80 content soon and specs.

For your bakkie needs, I recommend considering an Isuzu DMax, either the 1.9 or the 3.0. They quite bulletproof, reliable and affordable too. Not forgetting they less high risk compared to a Hilux or Ranger.

I see so many comments on various digital platforms the g87 vs G80/G82 is the same car just pick one! Lol, uh really ? Keyboard warriors are clueless let's break it down, the G87 feels faster on a roll, the suspension is different it feels on edge, its not as smooth as a ride as a G80/G82 the 3 series and 4 series platforms are more accomplished, the power delivery is different because its rwd its feels like you in a rocket each time you plant it on roll runs, the launch control was great while its far better than my F82 M4 you need bone dry conditions to the get the best launch, in the wet forget it those Audi RS3s are going to open gaps on a g87 in wet conditions because while your g87 M2 is trying to find traction the RS3 driver is already at the office pulling out his laptop! In addition you get more space in a G80, G82 you still have a 4 seater car, on the road you feel the bumps more in g87 vs G80/G82 and they say it's the same car ? Bleh!

BMW software version 07/2025.538 made the steering feel more weighted in both the g87/g80/g82 I have personally experienced this on my G87 and my few other M car members confirmed this is true. I was pleasantly surprised after applying this update just gives the car a nice feedback through the steering.

The car was sold with PPF and MHC front lip and boot spoiler, overall condition was presitine the next owner truly got a bargain. All BMW had to do was replace the tyres!

Even though the front had PPF I took extra care to maintain the rear section and doors, decomanation every 3 months, a polish and a nice coat of ceramic. Was all the effort and money spent on PPF and detailing worth it ? I guess that is a individual question: Can you accept visible stone chips and swirls while you own the car ? If the answer is a "No" then yes it was worth it. If you do not care about car wash swirls and stone chips forget the PPF save the money for something else. Haha in saying this I bet I if I see the g87 again I will be able to point out swirls on the body, not every M Car owner is like me! Pedantic....

Issues with the car ? Nothing, just one that is common with this car the darn M brake squeals, especially with the amount of brake dust these cars produce. BMW say its normal but they can smooth down the discs and pads to make it better, its also in the manual! Go figure. Everything in the car speaks quality yet again numerous people saying quality is of poor standards ? Like where on earth do people conjure up these comments without being an owner ? From a test drive ? from youtube reviews ? For the entry level M Car in BMW fleet the quality inside the cabin including materials used is far superior than it's rivals, in no way does it feel cheap or is comparable to some chinese make of car.

The G87 in short was a fantastic car and I am sure you all have seen the new x-drive g87 M2 will land in SA dealerships soon. I will miss the G87 however it was the right move, I will probably consider one as a garage queen in the near future but right now with my solar and electrical business I actually need a bakkie/simple run around to fill that third spot in the garage.

New thread soon, G80 content.

Great write up and massive congrats on the G80.

I see so many comments on various digital platforms the g87 vs G80/G82 is the same car just pick one! Lol, uh really ?

Honestly you have to ignore this bit. Everyone has these odd opinions about M5s as well. I have secretly labeled many people even on this forum as absolute morons for some of their comments over the years (perhaps unfairly :ROFLMAO: in some cases). If you like it and you gel with it, that is all that matters. You'll hear the same things about the G80 as well. These cars are all the benchmarks in their categories for a reason at the end of the day.

Same goes for the looks, features, drivetrains etc. People have opinions on Bugattis, Ferraris etc as though the looks or "fake" gearboxes or 'dodgy' business practices are the only things stopping their peasant asses from becoming customers :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO: As long as paying customers are buying them, that is all that matters. Ferrari dealerships are some of the friendliest in SA. You can buy any car you want, short of cars that only billionaires could afford let alone be invited to buy. People get upset about a thing that doesn't affect them at all and which likely never will. You can scale this bizarre phenomenon all the way up to hypercars and all the way down through Ms and AMGs to halo versions of ordinary cars.

There is so much noise about this online with Ferrari because Porsche has copied the model for ordinary cars, all caused by people who have absolutely no idea what they are talking about and (there's a trend here) have likely never set foot in a dealership let alone sat in or drove one yet absolutely think they know everything there is to know about it because their special internet friend told them.

With drivetrains especially it is actually worse than it has ever been before IMHO. Useless horsepower numbers are back... people have no clue what analogue means... people don't even know what to like - they have to be told LMFAO. Ferrari 296 is the best car I have ever driven (by a country mile) and it has a V6 that the internet will tell you is all sorts of wrong and a hybrid system that is the work of satan himself. My Alfa has a 1.75L 4 cylinder engine. If I had R100 for each person who thinks it is sort of like a Mini (or their Polo), I'd probably be able to buy a 296.

The brake squeal is something you will eventually just tune out. It is what it is. My Porsche with supposedly quieter Pagid pads still does it, Alfa even does it - if you want good brakes you have to live with this to some degree. Out of plan you can switch to lower performance pads that are likely fine for the street. With Xdrive you may also have the odd drivetrain noise. That is also normal with AWD LOL.

The quality thing is (as with every comment on these cars) not binary and very subjective. Again people just jump on some valid comments and amplify them without experience at all. e.g.: I heavily criticised some bits of my F90 (a car I love) vs. my F10 for material quality declines and with the G90 (for the asking price especially) I find it to be unacceptable for a 5-series level car. What gives some random on the internet, who may not even have a driver's license, the confidence to brand everything as shit, I don't know. It's like watching people talk about 'auto tragic' 'slushboxes' in 2026. It is a dead giveaway that they have no clue what they are talking about.

What also gets lost in translation is that while the actual quality of materials is a step down vs. prior generations and should be noted, it is not a deal breaker and it is nowhere close to the levels of an objectively 'cheap' car (ie the chinese cars. I would like to note that in the case of Mercs, the majority are indeed on the same level as a chinese car if not worse. :ROFLMAO: )

You can forgive a lot more for the M2 (though it is objectively not a cheap car despite being the baby). Despite declining quality of materials and fit/finish, you're 100% right that it is of better quality than rivals. It's because the rivals have declined to an even greater degree. We are not that badly off LOL. If you have not had prior gen cars you'd probably never notice it.

Looking forward to your G80 thread! (and to see it!)

Yeah, I'm fully on the bandwagon of not liking the latest designs and interiors from a design and quality POV. But compared to Merc BMW is practically bentley. HAHAHA
