After an awful experience with my last E90 320D I was convinced by a very good friend to purchase this:

  • Chassis Model: BMW 5 Series, 530d Sedan (E60 Generation)
  • Physical Production Date: Late 2004 (As recorded by the onboard vehicle modules and diagnostic scanners)
  • eNaTIS Registration Date: January 19, 2005 (First road registration date stamped on the South African licence disc)
  • Assembly Plant: Dingolfing, Germany (Plant Code: "B" in position 11 of the VIN)
  • Development / Project Code: E60 (Pre-facelift generation)
  • Steering Configuration: Right-Hand Drive (RHD / Steering Code: "R")
  • Transmission Type: 6-Speed Manual (Mechanical Linkage / Transmission Code: "MECH")
  • Drive Type: Rear-Wheel Drive (RWD / Drivetrain Code: "HECK")
  • Ignition Architecture: Mechanical Blade Key Ignition Switch
Mileage is pretty high at 380k KM's
But very unmolested and a solid drive.
Busy chasing a battery parasitic drain - which seems par for the course on these models.
But very happy and loving the manual box and the torqueyness of this engine.

Looking forward to the sharing with the community and the great advice and tips that come from this board.
More minor updates coming soon.

Thanks AdiS planning to do just that.

- Want to do a power dyno run just to check how well the motor is performing.
- Starting with a service so that i have a clean slate and piece of mind on that front - All fluids and filters
- Tyres, brakes and shocks all new and feel good on the car.
- The cause of the battery drain as mentioned - started some diagnosing and it looks like its FUSE 7 in the glovebox.
AI says its the Car Access System (CAS) Module. - Anyone with any advice on how to tackle this? Who to take the module to for testing?
- Then tackling some deletes - EGR & swirl flaps if not already done and DPF
- I had some terrible luck with looking for a OBD link (pic attached) to use with the Bimmerlink on my iPhone. Bought this Vlinker from Electromann after being conviced by AI that it was correct - R1200 buck later and.... its not compatible with my car. Only 2008 and older models sooo anyone looking for a OBD link for their 2008+ beemer. I'm your man ;) Electromann refused to refunds me or even give me a credit.

Gonna do some DIY wrenching tomorrow and will post some pics and progress.

Oh and he's been christened Caleb, and yes I'm still in that "honeymoon" phase and I'm sure there will be many fights ahead.
For now its any excuse to go for a drive and then the grin :giggle: and look back after I parked.
Soo much car for so little money.

strange that it is not working. i got the same one worked on all E chassis i have diagnosed so far. 07 E90 330i, E82 125i 2009, 2010 X5///M and a 2007 4.8i E70 X5. Also using bimmerlink (paid version) but on a samsung phone ( my vLinker is bluetooth 3.0)

Yes just bad luck with mine. Definately does not work with my car and on my iPhone 13 with latest ios. Also confirmed with the developers.
The primary reason a standard vLinker OBD adapter fails to connect to your specific car comes down to a hard hardware limitation: the early 2004 Euro 3 E60 manual does not use the standard CAN-Bus protocol for OBD diagnostics.

My car is a 2004 production and also does not have an EGR cooler from factory:

it uses a completely un-cooled, direct-pipe EGR system. This layout was standard for early Euro 3 manual M57/M57N models.

It also has 22mm Swirl flaps. So i am on the hunt for a swirl flap delete kit.
Oh and still hunting that parasitc drain . I drive around with one of those chinese jump packs.
But just loving the car and looking forward to slow but sure progress,
