B58 MHD stage 2+

Hi Gents

So my car is finally off MP and looking to mod it a bit.

Currently have the TU pump and collecting a few other bits which will all go in next month.

Is anyone running the stage 2+ map on their b58 ? How do you do this with the 2+ map minimum requirement of 98 ?

Excluding the obvious that is actually buying drums of 98, is there any viable way to run this ? (Eth mixes maybe?)

Question if I may. I'm guessing you have MHD in place, or not? If so, why not get a custom tune done locally (Can be done on HMD) instead of OTS? You would get more power and it would be done to our standards rather than OTS prolly done in the states at perfect weather conditions. You can also get 2 tunes - for hard eth and for normal no eth or 10% mix depending on what MHD license you have then. At default you can run 10% mix with/without a tune.

Short answer. Just playing around and completing mods myself. If I feel the need I'll run a custom map, but I prefer learning as I go with this platform. I'm not new to tuning just this platform, which seems to be octane sensitive due to the CR. Have a separate BT build toy car so not fussed with pushing this car. If the logs look a bit dodgey I'll custom tune for our crap fuel.

Most likely will target an OTS 2+ e30 map and log. Was looking for others experience on OTS here.

Keep it simple.

Load MHD.

You have TU already.

Buy Ethanol.

Use e40 MHD map, add 40% ethanol, 60% 95 fuel.

Carry on with life.

It is a lot easier thank trying to boost octane for 'fuel only maps'.

B58 likes ETH, and TU will run E40 no problem.

I am on BM3.

Yes, custom tune is 'best', but OTS works so so well. Easy, convenient, works great.

Shout if you need any help :)

Ah ok, in that case @Morribiscuit basically covers it.

Just get the right MHD license if you plan on custom tuning yourself later on, might save you from the start.

I try and steer away from it personally. I'll tune - test - then Google "How to retrieve my piston from the moon." even though I rly wanna get started with it.

Thanks! Really appreciate the advice. Added the TU pump already (was bored so it became the first mod)

Did the gearbox and diff service. Engine oil done. PCV done (it died idling in traffic). Just plugs and DP left to change when I get some free time.

Planning on running stage 1 95 ron to start (as a daily) and I'll flash in the 2+ E map for some fun.

Any experience with lsds locally? Bmw lsd is silly money. Looking for other options. Also have an M2(OG stock)which is such a perfect diff for putting the power down and sliding it around. Love to replicate on this car.

Yeah super license unlocks all options. Haha I've killed some motors already. I'm pedantic so I'll be logging a lot. I've always used water meth kits on my cars to buy me some knock leeway. But I'd rather not on this car

I wasnt on MHD bru. i opted for a custom flash. Just jump in and drive, no storys lol.
Nothing wrong with OTS maps, they work however nothing beats a custom flash by a well versed tuner locally.

@Tivz Dont these cars need a bench unlock before you can load MHD via port?
Not sure.

Nope this is an M140i gen 1 b58. ECU is not locked.

How easy is it to source a TU pump? Expected cost?
VERY easy haha!

These are like the biggest B58 discussion points these days haha.

@KarshS you bought when the craze was happening.

@sash you looking at around 10k for one. Sometimes a little more, sometimes you soek a luck also.

MANY people can get these for you. Shout and I can put you in touch.

New from BMW without knowing someone I believe is close to 18k.

On the bench unlock - no.

Only ECU after June 2020 require this. So mainly G series things.

Just remember ron vs oct (but I think you have).

91 oct = 95ron

Never run 93 octane because we dont have this available easily.

91oct, or ETH tunes.

Could not agree more here, the custom tune Xcede did for me was night and day difference from the Stage 2 OTS that I had even without using the water meth. Besides the difference in power delivery, the knowledge that came with it was worth it all.

Before being schooled by Ashley I never knew you even have 2 options to decide on, you can tune for numbers on a dyno or you can tune for 1/4mile and 100-200 times, the tune for times is the game changer for sure.

Hey @Tivz where did you get your pcv if I make ask? Mine seized
Got it at acshop.co.za (Cpt). Shipped to my door in 2 days.

Full kit with spring and cap. I just used th membrane and cap.

It's a pain to get the cover off. Try a hook type trim tool.
