Auto transmission oil for E46 330 D

Hi there

Does anybody know what auto transmission fluid should be used in a 2002 e46 330D auto transmission. I have tried to goggle it but have had conflicting answers. Also any idea where I can buy the fluid other than BMW itself.

You should have a label on the bottom that tells you. It is most likely Texamatic 7045E. You will have a hard time finding it anywhere other than the dealer. But take my advice, save a bunch and just get some Dextron IIIg fluid. Read on other forums what cheaper fluid you can use. (you just need to replace it every 40kkm or so.)

That said, I hope this is for a transmission other than the dead one, since there is absolutely no chance new fluid will revive your box, sorry.

Once again thanks for your help with this. No I am not trying to revive the dead one but the guy who is fitting the replacement box wants to replace the fluid before he installs it. We have decided to go ahead and fit the box which I bought in Joburg as there is a good chance it will work, if not I will have to go the rebuild route on my original box or see if I can sell the car as is for a R30K discount. I will get some Dextron IIIg as this is also listed on the GM pdf as the correct fluid to use for these boxes.

Sorry to be a complete pain but I am struggling to find Dextron IIIg. The closest I have come is Texamatic 1322S, or Spirax S2 ATF D2, or Transmax Dex VI. Any idea where I can buy Dextron IIIg or if I can use any of the products mentioned above, any help appreciated once again.

You could probably use this:

Here you see it is compatible with both Texaco 7045e and 8072b (which is the more expensive oil that came in the later boxes.)
