This is quite reassuring and good to hear, would like to purchase a 320D and hold onto her for a long time.

I guess time will tell whether the members here have better luck or whether this is the case with majority of the F30's - I reckon the 320D's are just great cars and pretty reliable.

As long as they have not been driven mainly short distances and had their DPFs clogged.

For used diesels, higher mileage is better.

Hi I also just bought a F30 320d 2012 model with 196kkm on the clock. it smoked heavy in the morning so I replaced the air filter and also changed the oil and oil filter. will soon replace the fuel filter. it still smokes on a cold start but a lot less. I do suspect the crank case breather and just heard from one of my buddies at BMW that the crank case breather for the f30 320 diesel forms part of the tappet cover. That means you have to replace the whole tappet cover. can anyone out there assist me in any alternative solution to this type of fix. if you have one to sell please drop me a male. thanx. my username is my email address.

The F30 320d's in SA have a CAT and not A DPF......it's simple to cut the cat out and fit a catless downpipe

Not a Beemer but my 2007 AUDI A3 :fencelook: 2.0 tfsi has 217 *** kms on still going strong. I service her myself every 10 k km. Does not smoke or use any oil.

Saving to do a whole suspension refresh.

I believe that if you look after your car, an show mechanical sympathy it will last. Cars dont blow up and go boom after 100 000 km.

I thought a cat and DPF was more or less the same thing?

Replacing the downpipe removes both, does it not?

1. what color is the smoke as it will tell you what the problem is.
2. otherwise go to BMW to do the diagnostic for around R1800

I'd love to see the reply to this :fencelook:

On the Diesels the dpf has a sensor on it, if it has a cat there sensor will be on the turbo

I bought my '14 F30 320i from an auction about 18 months ago, it was on 186xxxKMs and is now on 193xxx. I hardly use it, maybe on a Saturday or Sunday. It had completely blown shocks, bad leaky runflat tyres, rear brakes needed replacement, an oil service. Have attended to most, Koni Yellow dampers, H&R SuperSport springs, H&R spacers, a pair of Michelin PS4-S (non-RFT) at the rear, and oil service. Hopefully will do the rear brakes, front tyres, and another oil change end of the year. It isn't making the timing change noise, just the normal DI sounds at idle. I have noted though that it smokes on startup if I haven't used the car for like 3 weeks straight, apparently there's a seal allowing oil seepage somewhere causing the smoke...not really sure what that's about. It never smokes though if I daily it. Remaining issues are cosmetic, nicks and dings, front bumper needs a respray. Otherwise I like the car, a galaxy apart from my e46 though lol.

the average "joe" with any F30 wont be close to the 200km mark yet

Not many people do more than 30 000 km a year.

From google:
"The Road Traffic Management Corporation estimates that South African car drivers drive on average do 14 575 km per year."

If you take that average most cars on our road that will be close to that millage will be a 2005-2006 model.

My 2014 F30 has 105km as an example.

So you welcome to ask me in the year 2024 :roflol:

I bought my 2014 330d with 26000km on the clock in 2015. Its now on 138000km and I should get to the 200 000km mark in just over 2 years from now.
So far its been driving great with zero issues. Oil services are done at BMW to retain FSH with agents.

I diy'd front brake discs and pads about a month ago. Apart from that I've also replaced gearbox and diff oil at ZF around 105000km as preventative maintainance. I'd say my engine has just run in now with current milleage:smilebounce:

I have seen this car in the metal and it dose not look anywhere close to what the millage indicates. Its truly a well looked after vehicle with a clean bill of health :praise:

When the service indicator says to do so, every 15k km.
