Any Good 325is out there

Boy if you think its difficult to find a good M car out there try getting a 325is .

Firstly you are confronted with homemade shadow lines that are shadow lines just because the owner says so .

After that you are confronted with asthmatic wheezing cars that have been driven within an inch of their mechanical tolerances by buffoons who do not realize that no car can be driven hard every day without fail and not receive top notch preventative maintenance.

Of course they all still ask 100k+ because it's a "classic".Really ? Not after you butt fucked it for 2 years it's not .

Am I the only one irritated firstly by the lack of good examples firstly and the large amount of under appreciated and cared for examples littering our roads ?

I guess it is a combination of testosterone mixed with a dose of ignorance.

In the first instance the iS is only worth R100k if looked after and with correct numbers, in other words a car with no stories to it.

The fact that the car is 20 years old now really makes it difficult to get a clean example.

From experience I know that my e30 is extremely expensive to keep in good condition with ever decreasing parts availability and the challenge of most parts taking 4 to 5 weeks to get here.

I guess it all boils down to how much pride a man takes in his possessions.

These cars are worthless to the average man in the street . Asking prices are high and actual values are low ( book values ) , try get insurance and see what they pay out after a write off / theft claim .
Any performance car will be (ab)used , the parts cost more for general maintenance and spares get scarce .
A showroom condition car may get R100K , but the drift buckets the guys want R80K for are worthless unless you have a donor car or a lot of spares / cash .

Unfortunately we live in a modern throw-away society. I can understand your dilema, I have also seen so many "special" cars in shitty condition, and always wonder how the owners allowed these cars to get this way. Sad, but true.

Unfortunately, most 325is ended up in 2 categories.

1) Abused & f&Kced - you don't want to touch them
2) Mint (yes there are a few) - but prices are so ridiculous, it's just not worth it. (We're talking decent E46 M3 money)

I feel your pain.

e30 325iS has always been my dream car, ever since I was 13 when there were launched in 1990 ! As a kid I had pics of them on my bedroom walls. Always said I will own one, one day.

Now that I am in a position to buy one, I cant find a decent one at a decent price.

I dont mind paying 100k for one that is in showroom condition but it will have to be 100% stock and original condition.

Wot pisses me most about some of the ones you find is that owners try and pass Shadowlines ans iS's ! :argh:

Oh, another thing I would not pay more than 125k for an iS no matter how clean and original, thats how much it sold brand new for in 1992.

even 4 door 325's are fetching crazy prices. I was looking but just gave up and decided to make one as that'll be easier than finding a decent one:joy:

Sad, but true.

This also poses a problem when you do have one, cos you pay a premium for them, but insured value is a lot less.

Welcome to my world gents:rollsmile:

The 325is is just one of those cars which comes by once in a lifetime. If its even close to what you are looking for thats as close as you are going to get.

A clean one will never be up for sale on gumtree and if it is, its someone that knows nothing about the cars and will be sold with in 30mins (ive seen this happen).

The reality is, you have to be connected if you want one being sold legitimately.

They are out there and I know many people that has waited years for the right one at the right price and they are happy as a pig in sh!t.

I know of one in durbs for around 80k but thats with 300k on the clock.

Dont give up hope, I would love to see a good example of an IS join your stable:thumbs:

you can add extra's to increase cover, but not all companies allow it

4) Modified to the extent its lost its appeal as a classic 325is...

How many were originally made?

I just know, from the gumtree addict I am, that the poor quality and amount of '325is' that have poped up over the last year or two far exceed what was originally built. There is absolutely no way that 22 years later there are that many originals still around. Too many shadowline imitations.

At the end of the day, it's such a sad thing too see, and the over inflated prices, for e30's on the whole.
