Hey Fanatics.

Any G20 owners on this forum?

Quick question, any of you having issues with connected drive services? At the moment the car cannot connect to servers. I have had the car for 3 months now and this is the second time this has happened. 1st time, had to take car back to dealer. It worked fine until a couple days ago. Noticed I wasn't getting any traffic info. Then logged in on phone and see last update to location was on 2 October. Today I tried the SOS button in the car, after 7 minutes of waiting error came up cannot connect. I have deleted app on phone and logged in again. Deleted profile in car but now cant connect to connected services from the car. This afternoon, car kept saying key missing so couldnt start the car. I had to hold the key up to the steering column and only then would the car start. So.....back to the dealership tomorrow morning to throw a fit.

Just wanted to know if any other G20 or Idrive 7 owners have experienced the same?

Will update after my tantrum tomorrow

Have you tried contacting BMW Genius?
They usually know more about Connected Drive than the dealers and will be able to advise on, if not escalate, the issue.

A buddy has been experiencing the same issue, a number of times. Car goes in, call logged with BMW germany, update done, car goes home, few weeks later same issue again..., repeat the process above.

Thanks for the response, went into Dealership and the on floor Genius thinks it is the sim card in the car. Car booked on for next week to replace the card. Let's see what happens.

Let us know if the car comes right.
What sim card are you referring to? Is it an optional sim for WiFi in the car or do all G20's come standard with this sim?

Still waiting for a loan car so has not gone in yet. Will advise as soon I have sent in and got back.

As far as I understand, all G20's have them. They are used as part of the SOS feature as well as for the data services, via a APN, for all connected drive services.

***UPDATE***
Recieved my lapt.....vehicle back this morning. No issues with SIM card or sim unit. Car just needed a software update apparently. All seems to be working now and in order. Let's see for how long.

The connected services platform is probably the same service provider between the manufacturers.

You got better support than I did... We sporadically get "SOS Not Available" messages on the Merc (just for a few minutes at a time). Apparently 'it happens'. Let's hope it doesn't just happen for a longer period of time when one of us is in the middle of nowhere.

I wonder how many issues are caused by the cars having their batteries sitting during transport or on the floor. Most of the cars even at M Festival had 'replace battery' messages on them. I know on my F10 when there are battery issues you start having these weird problems.

the only issue, more like an irritation, is that the gear leaver is too close to the can holder or in the way and I keep shifting the car in Neutral most of the time when put my drink in the holder. You have to press the can into the holder slightly hard because of the those small things that hold the can in place. Doing that, you will either shift the gear leaver unintentionally or press the traction ON/OFF switch.

It does not look too close to me from that pic.
I have never come across this issue in any of the reviews I have seen.
But good to know
