Hi guys.
So I got my E46 318i N42B20 a couple weeks ago. We test drove it 3 times before we bought the beauty and the only issue present was a slight hesitation at low RPM but we took the car and got a service kit for it (oil + filter, fuel pump + filter, air cleaner, ATF to change gearbox oil)
On the way to work with it the other day (before doing the service) the car cut out. No surge, stutter, death rattle or smoke. Just stone dead on a slight 30km/h right hand curve. All lights and gadgets work except the heater, previous owner blanked off the pipes at the solenoid for an unknown reason.
What I've done so far: replaced fuel pump & filters including oil and air, haven't changed ATF yet. Changed spark plugs. Had a guy who's worked on these before check the cam sensors and vacuum pipes. I've checked spark myself and checked fuel pressure on the rail - all good. Checked all fuses and relays. The engine cranks strong and it sounds like the engine wants to take every now and then but it doesn't. Logic says if it has spark and fuel it's a timing issue or the ECU is shouting stop for one reason or another. We're still waiting for delivery on a diagnostics cable and software.
Is there anything I can check myself that doesn't involve heavy mechanics that I haven't mentioned? I read a short message on a forum that mentioned the crankcase valve?
Preferably I would love to get this car up and running asap but I don't have the bucks to consult a mechanic right now, I just bought a car cash dammit!
Any and all help will be greatly appreciated.:ty:
