I have a Valeo 150A alternator on my 330d '06model. With normal driving I have no issues, but on a rainy day when I use lights , wipers, heater , etc , it would appear that the alternator is not charging 100%. I am looking at replacing/repairing alternator. Can I swop Valeo Alternator for Bosch Alternator (330d '08model) Please Advise?:bangdesk:

I would suspect a faulty battery....specially if its only under certain conditions...Like loading it...

Take your car to battery centre, they can check your battery and if I am not mistaken, the alternator too.

I know there is a old school method to check if your alternator is shot, once the car is running, disconnect the battery terminal - if it cuts out, the alternator is shot....if it runs...its fine....I dont know if it will work the same with a diesel...

Hope it helps.

not a very good idea on a modern car laden with electronics.. rather check the voltage at battery with a multimeter while idleing, should be around 13,5-14.5 volt.

Voltage regulator roughly R1000 in parts.
Doubt anything to do with battery.

I recently used a guy in Midrand that gave really good service. He is a car fanatic and overhauls Valeo (and all other alternators) like new with 12 month warranty. I can send you his details if Midrand is not too far out of your way?

Let me know.

Thanks for replies guys, I had the car by Bmw Dealer for Service and testing of voltage issues at End of May. Was advised to replace battery which I did. 1 Month later I have the same problem. I asked to do a full diagnostic and it showed alternator needs replacing. I got a quote for 16K to replace the alternator and the 1 month old battery from same dealer. What to do? :argh:

Three things:

Don't waste your time and money with the dealers! :fencelook:

I would have the IBS charging system tested - new batteries have to be registered for the IBS to properly charge and maintain the battery.

Shop around for a much better price for the same part, have fitted at a trustworthy third party garage.

Maybe someday the dealers will realise and stop chasing customers away with these stupid crazy high prices and lack of proper knowledge. :bangdesk:
