Almost up in flames - glad to be alive

So not the best of days. I got my car back from randburg (arc) 2 days ago. Immediately after took the car to have the vps fitted. Collected my car yesterday and was suppose to leave for dbn. Decided i would leave much later, but overslept and ended up leaving after sunrise.

Anyway on the way to dbn, due to the roadworks some dirt was sprayed onto my windscreen as i drove past, which i could not clean at any petrol station. So while in dbn i decided to go the SMG motors near the beachfront to get some advice. On Argyle rd i put my fogs on as it was getting dark (bad weather) drove a few 100metres and pulled into the dealership, switched off and went it. Was there approximately 5mins when i see the workshop staff running out with fire extinguishers. They were putting out a fire from my car.

Feedback from SMG and the technician who came out was looks like a wiring fault on the fogs which probably was damaged when they refitted my bumper on tuesday.

So tomorrow i await an official report and hopefully how this is going to be sorted out. I need to get back with my fam and will be without my car for who knows how long.

Just glad i didnt leave at 3am as planned.

Don't the newer bmws use fuses anymore? It would have protected the car from a short circuit.

Sounds like quite a nightmare. Fortunately it happened while at the dealer. My 323i Msport burnt a few years back. I tried posting an after pic but it didn't upload.

Thanks guys. They have givem me a vehicle for a day, until they confirm the fault is with the repair centre
Bmw oncall very confused, consultant tells me i need to call my insurance since its an accident. Frustrating having to explain the same story to different people. Will be going to the repair centre in durban shortly... Hopefully will have a better idea of whats happening.

Hope it gets sorted.
think how fortunate you are that you were not in the car when the fire started, or driving on the highway.

I doubt you had a fire extinguisher in the boot, meaning, if it didnt happen at some business premises, more than likely, the car would be a piece of charcoal today.

glad you okay dude.

sorry bud- bad luck

just glad to hear you're ok man.:praise:

something needs to be done about the shocking services at Randburg ARC. as an affiliated approved ARC, BMW should be aware that their service is nothing short of Bulls*it.

not a good representation of the brand:thumbdo:
