Just an update

I keep getting different stories, even the guys at Arc briardene changed his story . He gave me feedback on friday morning and showed me what he thought was the problem. But within two hours of speaking to me and having to provide a qoute for the damages and speaking to whoever else at bmw it changed.

Bmw SA did provide me with another vehicle which im using to come back to jhb. They are investigating to establish the cause of the fire. The damaged parts have been sent to headoffice and they will give me feedback soon.

Repair costs are close to 100k [FACE SCREAMING IN FEAR]

Bud,

This should not have happened, it the ARC screwed up so badly as to cause a fire, then somebody did something seriously wrong.

My advice here is the following, get your insurance involved now.

Either which way, the assessor will give you the strong arm power you do not have as an individual.

This is going to come down to somebody screwed up, badly, This means its going to cost somebody money. Dealers are quick to take your money, your insurances money.

Get assessor involved ASAP, they will have your interest at heart, and have recourse against the original ARC. They can do stuff like threaten to remove the ARC from their panel.

I fit many bulbs and kits. They left the bulb loose those H8 bulbs will burn the fender liner or fog plastic in about 5mins if it's left loose or just hanging there. They get extremely hot. If you can look at the bulbs it will be melted on something. Sorry to hear about this.

Even these get extremely hot I make brackets for them any mount them away from anything which can burn.

Don't the newer bmws use fuses anymore? It would have protected the car from a short circuit.

As of E90, many conventional fuses have been swapped out for built-in electronic fuses that disconnect when the current exceeds the set values.

I am guessing the bulb was not properly fitted in its housing and could have come loose causing plastic or wiring to burn, therefore the Front Electronics Module did not see a short circuit and shut down that circuit? BMWSA does have a dedicated Thermal Incident Investigator. I am sure he will get to the bottom of the cause.

Good luck! Hope it gets resolved ASAP

Ah Bud sorry to read about this now!
Im sure there will be an acceptable solution...BMW usually do come to the party so lets hope they do so again.
What did the car go in to the ARC for?
Did your carbon goodies get damaged? Cant believe its R100k

Worst part is now you will have comments on something that was not your fault...

It went it for some spray work on the left fendor and front bumper. Some douche reversed into me a few weeks after i bought the car.

I truly hope they do come to the party, they keep giving me different information. Two days ago i was told they were looking at the parts and will get back to me. Today the same guy tells me the damaged parts only arriving today from dbn

Hi guys, i know its been a while but its been a crazy 2 months. So heres the update...

So it took BmwSA 3 weeks to get the damaged parts to midrand. I was told they busy investigating and they will get back to me, then i was told they still waiting on the parts. Eventually on the 17 December they gave me feedback, that because i used a non approved bmw part (the fog lamp bulbs that steven advertised previously) that caused the fire at the fog lamps. Obviously that is not the case but just an easy way out of putting the blame where it belongs, with Club Motors Randburg ARC.

I contacted Steven to inform him of the feedback. Steven, brilliant as he is, imediately put me in touch with his supplier who provided certification and approvals.for the quality of the product. (thanks Steven and well done on the great customer service, if only there were more of you)[CLAPPING HANDS SIGN]

During this time my broker was fully aware of the discussions with bmwSa and we eventually processed paperwork for my claim. Because it was year end, i was told the vehicle would be assessed in the first week of Jan 2016.

The usual scenario here is once assessed they would repair and take steps to claim back expenses incurred from the repair centre.

Now this is where it gets interesting, the insurance declined my claim , same reason about the bulb. I have still not recieved official communication in writing. I am now paying for the repair myself and will.be fetchingnmy car from dbn on tuesday.

However, i have been able to prove that the assessor made a judgement without even looking at the vehicle. The damaged parts are in jhb, the car in dbn. It seems he spoke to the guy who originally evaluated my vehicle at Bmw.SMG repair centre and filled his report.

I await the letter from the insurance and then plan on taking this up legally.

If anyone has any advice on how i can take this further i am all ears
