Almost up in flames - glad to be alive

Soomra. I highly suggest to call the ombudsman. Insurance companies tend to jump if they even hear they eill get involved. So forst step is to inform you insurance if they do not process your claim that you will get the ombudsman involved. It's a free service.

They cannot decline you because you fitted aftermarket globes. You aren't qualified to know which will cause fires, besides you do have the paperwork to prove they are quality.

Phoenix is right. I got some stuff sorted a few years back with ABSA insurance. After contacting a ombudsman they completely changed their story and paid up.

What sort of cost are you looking at if I may ask?

Yikes dude. It seems like BMW pushed the ball over the fence by saying it was an aftermarket bulb that caused the fire, and the insurance company just copied what BMW did to get out of paying. Ask the insurance company to show you the difference between an original bmw bulb and an aftermarket bulb. BMW bulbs is probably made by some outsourced company like philips or osram in any case.

Can you please name and shame the insurance company?

They are indeed made by Philips. In fact the chrome bulbs for the e90 indicators have Philips branding on them. BMW just charge 2x what Philips does.
