Getting a 330i E90 just doesn't make sense if you already have an E46. It may be stronger and have better creature comforts, but the power delivery and overall feel of the motor is very similar, so I don't feel like it's much of an upgrade.
If revving to 7000rpm is what gets you going you might as well go test the 328i F30. The 328i will give the E90 330i a decent hiding and you at least have some form of fuel economy in urban driving situations.
IMO the 328i is very underrated, but I'd still stick with the 330d.
