So, this weekend is the ADAC 24 hour Nurburgring Race.
The Nurburgring, nicknamed the Green Hell by Jackie Stewart because of how hard the track is, sitting at 25km long, combining both the nordschleife and the Nurburg GP circuit, to create the longest and most challenging race course to date.
BMW are the team who have won at the nurburgring 24hour race more than anyone else. A BMW car has crossed the finish line in first place 19 times, the last being in 2011 with the BMW M3 Gt2. Last year BMW came 2nd just behind Mercedes, who received their first ever Nurburg 24hour win.
BMW were also the first team to ever win a major 24 hour race with a diesel car. In 1998 BMW won the race with a 320d. Yes, a 320d.
In 2012, the BMW team schubert z4 Gt3 was in the lead and lapping faster than anyone else by 10 seconds, but eventually lost the lead after a drivetrain failure.
Other winners at the Nurburg 24 hour race are Porsche, with 10 wins, Ford with 4 wins, Chrysler with 3 wins and Audi with 1 win. Ferarri, Lamborghini, Nissan, Toyota, Mclaren and Aston Martin teams have never won at Nurburgring 24.
Newest team to the Nurburgring this year is Bentley. Nissan enters this years main event with the Nissan GTR GT3. Toyota enters with the Lexus LFA. Mclaren enters with the MP4-12C GT3 car.
There is a BMW M235i race car racing this year racing for BMW motorsport in the SP 8T category. This should be an interesting car to watch.
There are two official BMW teams that race in the main category this year. The first is BMW Sports Trophy Team Schubert, cars number 19 and 20. The other team is the team who came second last year with Martin Maxime behind the wheel, BMW Sports Trophy Team Marc VDS. They drive cars #25 and 26. Both teams drive the Z4 GT3 and they race in the main class which is SP 9 GT3.
Here is the live qualifying.
