Morning guys,
So over the past week or so i decided the 635 needed a new look (its still due to come of the road towards the end of the year for a proper restoration)
A reminder of how it looked before:
So first thing to go were those wheels:yuck: to be replaced by these:
- A-line scorpions
- 5x120 (8Jx17front , 9Jx17rear)
I wanted style 32's but couldn't find anyone that wanted to sell a set....
Fitting the wheels was real pain (The Supa Quick Saga) but TWT managed to get the job done. R200-00
Then i wanted a 'prestige plate' to break all the colour at the back, but couldn't find one second hand, and i'm sorry but i wasnt going to pay millions at the dealership for them to go find the guy in germany to come out of retirement so he could make me one and then ship in to SA when he feels like it..
So, some black vinyl would have to do..
Then the car needed some "low"
So it was dropped off at Van Zyl's Spring works (now Golden Springs) on thursday morning and they were advised accordingly. An hour later i got a phone call to say that the springs had been inspected and tested and that both front springs were ok, but the left rear was badly cracked and the right rear had hairline cracks in it.
I then asked them to make up a set according to bmw specifications and the work then continued as per instruction.
-70mm drop in front
-55mm drop at the back
They offer a 'same day' service so i was able to collect it after work on thursday.
Total cost including new springs and labour? R3200-00.
The ride is firm but compliant, and there are no rubbing issues, the arches were not rolled and the car doesnt have any spacers on. I did about 200km's this weekend and there are absolutely no issues
The plan on saturday was to clean the car properly (and the JHB guys will know how cold it was), but i managed to get it done, washed and polished and some leather treatment..
And then it was decided to remove the Hella fog lights and to move the number plate to the dashboard to give the front a cleaner look..
Here are the pics of the end result:
To the purists :sorry: but i like the way it looks...
