Whats the general take on air suspension?

I quite like it :fencelook:

I mean Coilovers are great but if your not building a performance car why not air?

the owner of this particular car actually pieced the kit together very cheaply and custom fitted everything himself.

Just some friday sharing

would you run bags on your BMW?

air springs can be setup for performace it is just no real use on a pure track car because they dont have to worry about speed bumps

what kit does he have?

Exactly

I dont have all the particulars of the kit(dont think its a kit), but i know its still on BMW struts that were modified to house the air springs and uses locally bought pneumatic fittings and things. From what i heard, he also uses a normal gas cylinder(household tank) as apposed to a shiny tank in the boot. kinda gives you an idea of how cheaply he put this together and it works well

That is porno

But I think he needs to put a little more thought into his rim choice.

With that kind of drop, & a better chosen wheel that car could look absolutely SICK!

well it is most definately somthing I am investigating main issue is cost other than that they perfrom well with the right dampers and you dont have to fear speed bumps or driveway lips

I may or may not be working on an e46 kit :)

Do it:thumbs: I think its viable business. specially to those who wanna be as low as possible but not necessarily scrape their cars along

I know the owner of this car very well. We should be bagging my e90 this year once I have the funds available.

The rear is an airlift set up with a double below bag. The front is using a universal air aero sport bag that is mounted to the factory strut. The management system is just 4 toggle switch's 1 per bag... An analogue system in other words.

Adrian the owner did majority of the work himself.

Does the car become less performance oriented when it's on bags?

depends completely on the setup... you can set them up to be soft or hard

basically you can 'engineer' any spring rate you want at your drive height it all has to do with the volume of air contained in the bag and the pressure so bag sizing is important to get the right spring rate

when paired with a good set of dampers they perform the same as steel springs when the correct spring rate is used it is after all just a spring in the end and it is how you use that spring that is important

Airlift have a number of cars they have tracked with good results

I want this setup for my e46. Moranor let me know when you have something for us

here is a kit designed for the e46 by airlift performance pretty much the leaders in air ride technology, just a straight forward install no need for mounts/Brackets to be made.

http://bagriders.com/modlab/products/BMW-E46-3-SERIES-AIR-RIDE-KIT-WITH-AUTOPILOT-V2-MANAGEMENT.html

http://www.airliftperformance.com/vehicle/bmw-3-series-1999-2006/

IF you watch the market you should be able to ship in under 30-35k.

the airlift kit is great but I am designing a kit that will be much cheaper based on Koni dampers
30k is just too much for the SA market
