330ci Power Steering Pump

looks like the power steering pump on my E46 just went :blueCry:

drove it around this morning, no problem. parked it, went into the shop, came out.. started it and i heard a snapping noise. turned it off, and tried starting it again...this time no noise.

tried reversing out, and OMG...the steering was KO'd.

i got it towed home, and checked the belt (hoping it slipped off), but it was still on there.

can anyone confirm if this pump is the same as a e46 320i? will have to run around and look for a good second hand one or something.

A new replacement pump from Goldwagen is just a few hundred ZARs. Check on realoem or let GW look it up from your vin to make sure you get the correct replacement.

so i cant find these anywhere in Zim, however managed to get a second hand one from a breaker. the car had 65,000k on it.

one question though, is the pump shaft supposed to have a tiny bit of play in it?
like if i pull it forward and push it back, it clicks and moves a few mm's?

thanks guy!

update:

second hand pump fitted, bled and everything is working 100's so far. no power steering noises or anything, so im very chuffed about that.

the old pump didnt shear the shaft as i thought. it was all still very intact, it was making a weird noise when i turned it by hand, so most likely something broke internally.

will see if i can strip it out later in the week to see what happened.
