325i or Scirocco?

OK guys, I test drove a VW Scirocco DSG this past weekend, and it was awesome. I wasn't considering buying one, I just drove past the dealership and stopped on an impluse when I saw it stading there. Now I am seriously considering trading my 320d for a new one. Of course I had to consider what BMW can offer me, and for the same type of money I can get a brand new 325i with the sport pack (I'm thinking Le Mans blue ). BMW will give me R40k above normal trade-in if I buy a new 3 series, and they'll finance me at 5% below prime.

Normally I would look for a second-hand car, but the second-hand Sciroccos are not much cheaper to make it worth it. It seems the Scirocco/GTI keeps its value a lot better than your average new BMW (which makes it even more tempting to go for the VW).

I think the Scirocco trumps the BMW in terms of sheer coolness. Plus, I am a single guy so the additional practicality of 4 doors doesn't really matter to me. I haven't test driven a 325i yet, I am still waiting for BMW Hatfield to get a demo.

So, can you guys talk me out of buying a VW? :mmm:

if you're looking for that coolness factor, go for the vw, it is also more rare in comparison to a e90 3 series (much more).. you own a bmw so need to tell you how it drives/handles. the 325i does have some kick but not a whole lot imo... however it does love to be revved and treated like a family go kart :)

If you are not looking for outright power, and u prefer coupes... why not look at an e92 320 coupe, similar starting price to the e90 325, if not slightly cheaper. Just not sure if they will offer you the same deal though:thinker:

I love the look of the rocco, but I think it has a TFSI motor, which would just put me off completely. Call Jandre

Double N, i also drive a 2005 Golf 5 GTI DSG, and after my BMW's I am very disappointed. The engine is noisy, the cabin is noisy. (My wife's 1996 E 36 is quieter when cruising 120, and I am talking about roadnoise inside the cabin, not exhaust note.)

The TFSI engine has this clatter noise when the engine is warm, I hate it.

Personally I feel that the G5's interior is very plasticky and not at all on par with the likes of BMW.

I have not seen the Scirocco inside, and dare not comment, but this is my personal experience.

In a nutshell, I can't wait to get rid of the GTI, so I can buy myself a 3 series again.

The thing is there's fricken E90's everywhere. BMW's el cheapo 320i's are really ruining the exclusivity of owning such an awesome car as a BMW. And that R40k offer of BMW is only on the 3 series sedan, not the coupe (which I would love to own). And the 320i won't be powerful enough for me. :mmm:

Hehe thanks, well a friend of mine has mark 5 GTI, it's not bad at all.

What about a 125i Coupe sedan?:)

I'll consider that as well. I don't really like the front of the 1 series, but it should be awesome fun.

Yep I agree, BMW is way more classy. But the Scirocco is so cool...

I haven't noticed the clatter noise. I'll ask my friend with his mark 5 GTI to take me for a spin, and I'll listen for it (and the road noise). And yes the interior of the Scirocco is not up to BMW's standard. It's better than the Golf though, it has a huge touch-screen radio which works brilliantly.

OK, so I'm back at 50/50 between the 325 and Scirocco. I must admit, I had an awesome lot of oversteery fun yesterday driving my 320d on the wet roads. Now if BMW can just hurry up and get a 325 that I can test drive...

Scirococo is about R350k. The 135i is awesome, but the rear seats are tiny, while the Sciroco can still accommodate 4 people in comfort. I still need to have the space for more people once in a while. I have checked this - I easily fit into the back of the Scirocco, while I struggle to get into the back of even a 5 door 1 series :cursin:. Plus the new 1 series is on its way.

But yeah this is getting more complicated - a 135i would be brilliant as a daily driver.

P.S. VW is already starting to irritate me. The lady I'm dealing with hasn't called me back yet (she said she would have done that yesterday morning).

Yep this isn't helping. I had a VW Polo before I bought my Bimmer, and the service I received was OK. But since then I've experience BMW customer service :clap::clap:

nooit dude :p We took a trip to Tarlton and to Sun City 4 up. Just slap the chicks in the back and your golden :D

It's not the M5 which has space for 7 people :p but it's decent. And it is MILES better looking and quicker than the scirocococo.
