I dont agree with you aZZ, let me re-post my first post in this thread:

I also had to drive a 320i once when my car was in for repair at bmw, and it was one of the more luxerious mdels, it had parking sensors front and rear, sunroof, auto everything, 18" wheels, I mean almost everything I can think of.
I actually put in an aplication on the car, and almost bought it, until I got my baby back and re-experienced how she handles and performs, and cancelled the aplication.
I agree with you both, for someone having a "better" bmw than a 320i, you will feel let down by the 320i, but for someone coming from a tazz, a citigolf, a corsa... you catch my drift, to a 320i, they will be in heaven.
Now by what I wrote here, I was, and still am more than willing to buy a 320i, depending on what the car offers in extras, in order to make up for the lack in performance. How is that scaring away potential forum members??
you have the right to your opinion and i understand "YOUR" post and feelings towards the car, now Coisman, in no funny order, YOU are not THE forum and club, people would not look at YOU only and base the clubs reputation on YOU only, with that being said, you know i have no beef with you and if this club was focused on you only and your opinions, could be different.
you are welcome to differ towards my judgment, BUT, being within the motor world and club forums for a while, and also speaking to alot of people who i invite over to the forums i frequent, the forst thing these guys do are view the forum as guests, then judge it and join should they like it.
now you are one person with a good attitude and dont moan about the 320i with unequal comparisons, you are 1 out of how many again??? exactly....now in every basket are a few rotten fruits and the rest with rot from that,, like-wise with the view of the rep of this forum and club, people will view a couple negative posts and then portray the whole club to be like that. dont say i am wrong, cause we all know its human nature, there are people who will think like that.
and again, from knowing very strict and well moderated forums and clubs, worthless and pointless threads do nothing and have no value to add to the club, hence they are worthless and pointless. but keep it if you guys feel you should keep these threads, in the end, when guests view this nonsense, believe me, it will have an effect on their judgement(again, it is human nature).
i am looking at the bigger picture of the club, which honestly i don't see much of anyone else actually doing here, not much enthusiasm or planning being done with this club, we have random members having to provide ideas for events etc etc. would be nice, if our committee can start marketing our club more, getting more attraction, more events but until then, we can not talk about competing with massive clubs with the like of the VW Club etc etc. maybe we can look at this to start doing some stuff for the club?
Also, whether you are a Metro Cop or a friekin CEO, you will read something pointless and lost interest in it if it is over-played, and if you see people talk nonsense and have nothing better to contribute and it happens over and over again, what you will do is be less-likely to return to that forum/club/book etc etc etc. You get what i am saying?
Not forgetting, i say this in all due-respect and no slander to anyone, but like you said Cois- you will respect someone for buying a BMW, irrespective of engine designation, then why cant the rest do the same. there isnt anything wrong with the 320i's, it caters for it's owners needs.
also, this is what i see of the BMWFanatics club currently, to be honest, it has come some way, but could be a lot better should we have more unity, direction and structure. Ask Mr. Arbee, that man has been in the VW Club committee for a while, we should get some suggestions and maybe some tips and apply them to this BB to help us grow in a more positive way rather than just entertaining pointless threads throughout. Just a positive suggestion again, just for 'our' club.
this is my opinion and in no means want anything to come across as blunt or negative, please accept my apologies if i do, i would like the above suggestions to be taken as positive suggestions in light to better our club, there will be people who differ and welcome to comment, but this is what it is, unfortunately.
