320i or 325i

Hi all
I have a 2016 330i , I have it for 7 months and already have 22000km. So I d cider to buy a 292 e46 325i with 253000km to take the strain off my new car. I have proved the car as I put another 7000km on it so far from mid September till now.it is in vin very good condition however it smokes sometimes when I start up in the morning.

I went looking for something with less km , so I just bought a 2003 e46 320i. It has 141000 km auto. Very neat however it was owned by an old guy and he did some bumper bashing so almost all panel have been repaired and resprayed professionally though. It has minor issues like the speed control doesn't work and outside temperature reading 50 degrees Celsius.

I needed advise on which car I should keep with reasons from someone on their forum that could give me a better opinion.

I got lost when he purchased the second E46 because the first one had high mileage , why buy the E46 in the first place , I thought mileage didn't matter on the E46 ?

If it was me, I would sell the E46 320i and use that money to sort out the issues on the E46 325i.

Also, is the 325i a manual or an auto?

I don't get some of you okes on this forum, and this sort of thing happens often. They guy is asking for advice on which E46 to keep. Why analyse the man's choices, he didn't ask any of us to help pay. Its his money, he can do with it as he pleases.

I'm with GP Grobler on this one, sell the 320 and use the money on maintenance for the 325i.

The 320i has much lower mileage than the 325i so I think you should keep that. The minor issues on the car can be sorted out. A friend of mine has owned an E46 320i from almost brand new and it is still running smooth with no major issues. He's now doing 280000km.

Keep the one in better condition...at that age service history and condition is more important than mileage

From my experience , mileage does not make much of a difference if the car has been well maintained and sometimes a higher mileage car can be more trouble free then a low mileage car as most of its "trouble" parts have already been changed.

But that's now a maintenance issue as we don't know how either car has been maintained. I Drove a dealer owned e90 320i with 80k and it was terrible , the car was not maintained well and it was taking oil , had low power ,missing , sometimes heating up, basically falling apart , guess what it was a 1 owner car trade in owned by an elderly man as well so you never know what you are getting and who maintained the car or what parts were used.

From his post It sounded to me as if he had doubt about the mileage of the 325 as it was getting higher and he has assumed that it would be more prone to failure, where as the mileage on the 320i is lower and assumed to be less prone to failure. And he wants a reliable car . And as I noted , you cant judge reliability based on mileage.

If his worried about the mileage , then take the lower KM car , If his worried about reliability , he needs to look at both cars and see which was better maintained . He also needs to consider that the 325 is smoking a little and the 320i has its issues and weigh in the costs.

I would buy the two cars which user polly is selling and split the mileage between the 4 old cars you now have. Whilst saving the 330i for church on Sundays and other special occasions.

The 320i has the lower distance going for it. The 325i has better performance, more so if it is a manual.

On the other hand, this is the 2.2 litre 320i and the difference is not vast. On paper anyway - 125kW versus 141kW. A chip job might liberate a few lost Watts that was left on the table for marketing reasons. Might. Somebody who has tried it would know better. Can anybody comment on this?

I have never driven the 2.2, how does it perform compared to the 2.5?
