320d "sluggish"

So I drove my uncle's e46 320d this weekend. Man was I surprised. The car felt dead and unresponsive (as if there isn't a turbo or it wasn't functioning). Took forever to reach 100km/h. Also, when idling, it's very noisy and the vibration coming through to the cabin is quiet rough (yes I know it's a diesel) but the "roughness" dissappears while driving. Is this normal for the e46 320d? I've driven the e90 and e87 diesels and they are way more responsive and refined. But was the e46 really that bad?

My colleague's E46 isn't sluggish, it's smooth and responsive.
Drive it hard this weekend and see if maybe it needs to be woken up lol!
Seriously though, drive it hard and see.

If all else fails, have it checked out.

Does not sound right , can be anything from a broken boost pipe down to turbo issues

Best is to get it checked out

Doesn't sound right if you say there's a feeling of no turbo. So I also say take it for a nice drive, may be the uncle drives like a grandpa, who knows!
Otherwise let it be checked!

does sound like either a boost leak or turbo not functioning correctly

the description sounds like a boost leak. can you still hear the turbo?

Best bet get the covers off and inspect all the pipes

Can't hear the turbo spooling actually. Hmm, hope it's nothing too serious. Will tell him to get it checked out. He just got the car recently.

I have the same symptoms, but on a F30 320d. This happened after it went in to fix injectors that were leaking as it would cut power and eventually switch off on hard acceleration, like when pulling away or overtaking. I've already arranged to take it back and have it checked.
