hi Gents

my car is doing some funny $h!t.....

while the car is idling... the rev automatically goes to like 1500rpm and then drops... and it keeps on doing it....

could it be a sensor or something?
please assist

Could be your idle valve. You need to have it cleaned. You might have to adjust your airflow to get her to run/breed/burn smooth again

Howdy man,

What 318, do you know specifically what engine, N42, N46...

Look inside the engine bay, it should be on a sticker.

What year is the car ?

Check for vacuum leaks, crank position sensor, MAF. Any other symptoms like loss in power, jerky power delivery? Without more info it could be any number of things from a sensors to something very serious so like LZ said do some diagnostics.

Actually, Legacy...... come to mention vacuum leaks,

THere is a breather pipe that runs the lengh of the intake, this pipe traditionally gets crushed under the plastic cover and becomes very "holy" rather quickly..

I do not think I have worked on one N42/N46 where this pipe (and some others) was not shot...

But yea, again, diagnostics is your best bet here :)

I would still suggest that the diagnostics get done. It can point out a faulty cam position sensor (not sure if your car has one though).

@legacy- the car does tend to lose power between the gears.... like a dead spot. i was also thinking diagnostic test.... will have to get it done asap coz the fuel consumption in messed up and the power is slacking.
