So average consumption has settled on 6.1 over the 300km that I have done so far. I assume that's more or less where it's going to stay. The dash took some getting used to as it can be a bit distracting. Ended up with a configuration that shows uselfull info and not too many gimmicky distracting things that doesn't matter. There is a lap timer, seriously? Maybe can do a few laps around the 'ring road' though I might be tempted to start going faster and faster. Was pulled over yesterday but only because the cars doesn't have number plates yet. Going for VPS on Wednesday, it's a bit if a grudge purchase tbh, but long run should be worth it.

Ok. So last and hopefully final complaint. This is not the kinda car where you open to window to listen to the engine at idle. The diesel clatter is quite woes. I'm kinda glad they used speaker trickery to mask that sound on the inside.

Really gets the balance perfect between a sexy hot hatch, and a smart,premium look.

Even though the price of diesel has gone up, that consumption is still worth it.

Imagine on a long distance trip, what a pleasure.

I think with remap, that will be a perfect car

On the VPS aspect, bear in mind that your insurance will not automatically cover the VPS replacement cost if your car is written off or seriously damaged, unless you specify the VPS as an extra item on your policy.

Also, I have yet to see the cost of VPS come through into enhanced resale value, unless it is an exotic car. My 2c...

Rather plug in that money into paying off your car sooner, or just knocking off capital. The interest saved over time would more than make up for the little dings that the next buyer (or dealer, if traded in) would discount off the resale.

So yesterday I finally figured out where 'sport' mode is.... it was pretty funny, I'm probably spoiled by my old car but damn the golf is slow. Its a decent overtaking car but off the line it's got nothing.

But, racing stripes do make a popular car model easier to identify and track - not only when trying to find it in the car park, but also if it (touch wood) gets stolen...

So real world economy after filling up from the first full tank is 7.2L/100km. No where near claimed figures but I assume the economy will get better after a while, car now has 1056km on the clock. Car reckons it's 6.3 I don't really understand how it can be so far out...

Ok. So I have had the car for a few weeks now and here is the long and short of it.

It's a very nice car but there is zero smiles that come with it. There is only a kinda half smirk because if the economy. But that's it.

DSG gearbox software is shit, to put it bluntly. In normal driving mode the gearbox is sluggish and a gap cannot be exploited. Foot flat and there is a 3/4 second gap where nothing at all happens. Gearbox in sport and then it refuses to go above 4th gear and it just sits there. IT NEEDS a inbetween setting. Can use it manually of course but the DCT box in my previous car was a magical thing. Always where it was needed most.

Anyway, like I said, it's a nice car that is not perfect but I will adapt and treat it like a commuter and not a laugh a min like my 135i was.

I am the biggest fan of RWD, but the problem with having had a 135i coupe. What do I replace it with that is similar that will not break the bank. At the auto Bavaria meet the other day a 240ì was on the floor for well over R800k and that is just not something I can afford. Plus then the petrol an insurance expense. I really hope the current fuel prices isn't the norm going forward.

We share the very same problem bra. I have a 335i coupe. I want to get something else. Heart says E92 M3 - head says maintenance costs too high. Then i look at the M240i - cost is just too high at the moment. For the same driving experience i feel there is nothing out there at the moment for a budget price of R300K to R350K

I just drove to Rustenburg with one from Joburg via Magaliesburg just now. The interior is beautiful hands down If I say I might get shot here but its almost if not better than the AUDI 8V A3 interior. Everything is laid out as you expect and on that alone... 10/10 VW. I am just not a fan of the touch sensitive buttons but that is for personal reasons. I have chubby fingers and I just don't know If I have pressed the button or not. Needs some vibration feedback or something. Maybe its a setting that was switched off.

Trying to pass a truck is something you plan in advance you don't just see a gap and foot down. Like you said there is a delay before anything happens but when it happens being a diesel it all happens at once and then you are riding a big wave of BOOOOOOST

Overall I must say I am truly impressed. Soon as you realize that this is not a GTi then everything makes sense. Watching YouTube videos of GTi vs GTD is not a fair comparison. That Krugersdorp - Rustenburg road is very terrible full of uneven road surfaces but this car irons them out... somewhat. Comfortable cloth seats and in this heat that is what you need.

Hot hatch diesel... Yes.

Tell the dealer to perform a DSG re-adaptation on the box.
It basically reboots the DSG and it relearns the clutch bite points. The main thing is to drive the car under your usual driving conditions while the DSG relearns after the adaptation.

Used F30 320d is all you need.
Preferably with a manual box.
Maybe a software upgrade for a bit more power.
