2015 BMW F20 125i Motorplan expiring

Hi all

So my Motorplan is coming to an end soon, I was thinking Id just cover the costs from here on however I had a service last week(car is only on 42k kms) and they had to replace the timing chain as well, I got a rude awakening when I saw the invoice of over R20k for the work amd that excluded labour.

It's got me worried now, I want to know if there are any decent maintenance/service plans out there besides extending the BMw plan (R24k for 1 year). I've just bought a house so these major expenses are a no no.

Any guidance would be appreciated. Thank you all.

Hi,

There are more qualified people on this subject than me.
However, based on your experience of having a service cost R20k, one can argue that a R24k extension is actually not that bad (considering that it covers other maintenance items and labour too).
No aftermarket extension is going to give you as much coverage as a BMW plan.
You could consider servicing and maintaining your car at a good RMI workshop (some good referrals on this forum), and only get oil changes done at BMW, so you can still have some official BMW service records.
On another note, you remind me of a family member some years back who was in the same boat (he had a 325i E90 go out of plan, he had a kid on the way and he just bought a new house) - he ended up selling his 325i and bought a top spec used Corolla. He now has a Lexus.
That's just my 2c and I am sure that more qualified members will comment soon.

It's such a tough choice. Almost feels like a bit of luck is involved with the mechanicals of each car. I'm reaching the end of my plan in the next few months and its a stress.

Its a huge stress to be honest.
Im looking at going the route of the BMW Black deals which cover oil services and finding a few a reputable RMI approved place to keep it maintained.

Im so conflicted right now. Even considering selling.

The 24k is really not bad. I also have 2015 125I. I did not renew my BMW motorplan. I however took out a warranty plan. I realize now that no other plan will cover you like the BMW Motor Plan.

I have bought my M135i out of plan, it is not that bad at all. I did preventative maintenance and mods on the car. The costs are minimal, using the AB< discount in pricing has saved quite a bit...i you get big ticket items done while in plan you should be fine. I have an aftermarket warranty that covers anything major on the car...how much has been used to claim yet = 0!

So, if you have had the car for long and did main maintenance items under plan...dont sweat it too much. There is enough parts places for good prices and not replicas stuff....and get a good labour provider that is RMI. Take out the aftermarket warranty and done.

Thanks so much Ash.
Please send me details of the aftermarket warranty.

I guess 357 will be servicing the cabbie from here on out.
