That's good to hear! Glad that they are sorting this out for you! Would be nice to know what was ultimately the reason for the heavy oil consumption though.

2008 323i E90 Oil Consumption

E46 is of course different to the E90 when it comes to the engines etc - fantastic achievement and cool pic!
From my various reading on oversees forums the some of the E90 six's are known to use oil - I think there are lots of things that can affect how much oil is consumed. The E90 motors also rev a bit higher - my E90 330i's redline is at 7000 rpm instead of 6000 rpm for the E46 330i for example. This alone doesn't explain the oil usage I know, but look at some of the 335i that have oil catch cans fitted to accumulate the blow-by oil that would otherwise go into the turbo, intercooler etc. This oil usage is also a very new thing for me to get use to - for now I am keeping an eye on it since I have only had the car for a relatively short time.

But this tends to be the trend with modern motor manufacturers when it comes to "acceptable" oil consumption - our Isuzu bakkie which is a diesel uses a very small amount of oil and when I asked the service agent they said, the engine is still young in terms of mileage and it will settle and that the oil usage is so low in any case. Then I read through the owner's manual and from what I read, 1 ltr of oil consumed per 100 ltr of diesel used is within acceptable limits! What? That's crazy, but fortunately what I am seeing on the bakkie is literally just a small drop in level between scheduled oil changes... But knowing the way some people treat their diesels I wouldn't be surprised if they had to top up oil at each visit to the diesel pump... :mmm:

I think that's the standard sort of spec that most (if not all) manufacturers are operating/hiding behind these days! It's ridiculous! I do firmly believe that the world is going backwards in many respects - technology is improving, but quality and lifespan is more and more being optimised to only last as long as it takes for the replacement model to arrive! Things have become very disposable rather than repairable - in other words, things are no longer made to "last forever"...

Just an Update, Got my car back yesterday with a brand new motor.
They are sending the old one back to BMW Germany for testing, all they could tell me was that it was using too much oil.
I got a copy of the invoice....
A massive R103 000 for the whole Job. Thank Goodness i had motorplan!! :clap:
Anyone still under motor plan having the same prob... take it in, and make a fuss. Coz if this happens to u after motorplan, then u gonna be in trouble!

i have a 2005 E90 320i with an excessively high oil consumption. about 1 litre per 1000km.
i have done some research and it seems like there is a problem with the crank case ventilation valve. my car is sitting on 173000km and apparently it is common at high mileages.
i am going to check it out for sure this weekend and let you guys know.:thumbs:

one of the biggest factors in oil consumption is driving styles.
Oil usage in the performance motors are very common, and a car driven hard every day will obviously take more oil.
Generally a 320i 323 or 325 driven slowly/normally every day will not consume oil. Also every motor is not the same, so comparisons to other cars may not be 100% correct.
Just glad your car got sorted out, 103K is very steep!!

My o6 523 E60 uses 1l. Every 4000k depending on how I drive but this is very common if you look on the net on some different forums about 4k is common on these engine

My E90 330i uses some oil, but I think overall, not too bad - around about this time last year I had to top up, now recently again. Distance travelled from then until now is 8100 km, so not chronic, but still something I cannot get used to with a car that only has 57 280 km on the clock. Looking at the service book, the oil consumption from the service prior to me owning the car until I had topped it up last time, was 6480 km - so for what it's worth, oil consumption has dropped a bit. My driving is mostly gentle using mid revs and sticking to the speed limits, but I do put the hammer down every now and again, and she keeps asking for more. The previous (original) owner was a woman, I suspect an older woman, and judging by her title, she was single. And she lived/worked in the Southern Suburbs or maybe closer to town, so I would think mixed traffic conditions.
