Once I have my cats removed I'll be able to take on 320d's and 325's. I can't wait. Oh wait, no, that isn't going to happen but I should feel happier about the speed. So far everyone I've spoken to have said that it makes a BIG difference. So we'll see.

Its good that you have the right expectations, then you won't be dissapointed. 320d is still going to be faster, even if you could get power up to 135kw, which is a stretch. Atleast you could then put the aircon on :thumbsup:

I am fine with a special BMW lane, just so long as there are no 320i's in my way :)

:cursin: :cursin::cursin:

and i just thought we had some happy ending going on here:hammerhead:

dont make me come and steal the 2 extra cylinders you have in your car away from you lol :thinker::thumbsup:

P.S. When you move the cats from the 320i, it becomes a 320.1i!

By the time you get there in your 320i, the 2 extra cylinders would have rusted away in any case ....

:) :) :)

Are you trying to say that removing the cats won't make much of a difference ? 320.1...I was hoping for 321.8 at least. :)

this is pointless any car under 200kw is ridiculously slow... its a bit like one spaz trying to prove he is a little less spaztic than all the other spazes...

I'll have to disagree with you on that, what about a 199kW go-kart :) that should be plenty fast, for a little while at least, and then it will be certain death :)

I was actually starting to research about the 320i automatic. (2007-2008) model

Now I get this!

Currently driving a 2007 n/a 2.0 subaru, and getting tired of gear changing. (and need a change)

BMW is going to send out agents to take down this forum soon. I'm sure we've already hurt some potential new 320i sales :mmm:

@piranha786: Go test drive a 320d Steptronic

but seriously buy any car with the smallest engine it comes with and it will be annoying to live with...

Correct me if I'm wrong but removing the cats won't give a huge improvement in power ? Would I get +- 2-4 kw's extra or more ? I really have no idea what gains one could expect.

I have no idee, just heard that cat plus chip etc gives 8 to 10%.

There will be small base gain from removing the cats irrespective of the condition, how much more you gain above that (ie don't lose) is dependant on the condition of the cats, the worse the condition the more you will gain. Of course to make full use of this it is probably also a good idea to do the full exhaust and get a chip just to optimise the engine for the new exhaust. Oh change your air filter regularly.

(I know some will be tempted to give me K@4, but just read it properly. Especially the bold bit)

I once went up against a 320i Auto. We were both at the lights, me in the left and the 320 in the right. I needed to be in the right so when the light went green I gave the 318i some stick (No where near wheel spinning), just enough to get ahead. A little further down the road we both got caught at another light. The light went green and I gave the 318i some stick (Again no wheel spin) and to my surprise the 320i was doing the same. I then shifted to second gear and the 320 started to fall behind.

I can't be sure whether the driver in the 320i gave 100%(Probably not), but he surely did until second gear. We were door to door until I heard that unmistakable shift of an auto. I've always wanted to "retest" it to see the results as the 320 should win if driven properly (On paper at least).

The E90 weighs about 320kg more than my E30.
Power to weight:
2010 E90 320i Auto: 114.68 bhp/ton
1991 E30 318i Manual: 98.69 bhp/ton

Also, I've had my speedo read 200 which I think is damn impressive for a 20 year old 318i. :)

My point is that the 320i is much slower than you might like to believe. People buy the E90 320i expecting a lot, but the E90 320i is a completely different car than it's predecessors and can't really be compared. Even so I'm pretty sure a healthy E30 320i would be quicker that a E90 320i and it's kinda all down the the extra weight of the E90. The new turbo motors will make things interesting again. Lets just hope BMW doesn't boost the price like they will the performance.

All this talk.. & my dads busy looking at a 2010 320i.. they bringing it around today to look at..

Its for my mom..

She does like 50Km a week... so 320i is fine for her...

She currently has a E46 318i f/l auto & is more than happy with that...
