Guys, After a long fleet of VWs I traded my 2004 Golf Gti for a 2008 Le Mans Blue E90 sportpack 320i A/T. I regretted the day I did that... until I took it back for a driver's side window that wasn't working to Sandton Auto. to have them look at it. The service attendant said it should not take long to fix the window maybe I should just wait for the car. I wandered the dealership looking at all the BMWs and eventually I asked for a test-drive on an E90 Sportpack 330d A/T.

I am glad to say I did not hesitate to sign for the 330d right away after the test drive because when I drove it I felt the torque on the rear wheels and and this was something that was not there on the 320i, I was always frustrated when I have to overtake, Gtis always pushed me or flickered lights for me to get out of the fast lane. There only reason I could not move its because my 320i had a BMW badge...

I do apologise to the guys who still own them and to them are special machines, I fully understand but I would rather have something else...and that something else is a 320d or any other 6 cylinder BMW.

About the 330d, I have a permanent grin on my face since the day of purchase:thumbsup:

The 330d is a car and a half. What were you doing on the fast lane in a 320i? LOL

Going from a 140i to a BMW E90 was a MAJOR step for me. Believe me. I went from a 1978 1.3 Toyota Conquest to a 140i 2003 Corolla to a BMW E90 2005 320i. I would like a 325i next because I'm still too worried about diesel. Thing is, if I buy a car I'll be using it for the next 5-8 years if not more.

As things currently stand I won't be buying another car in a VERY long time. Perhaps never, unless I sell my 320i. Still got low millage, 85400 km's. But man I remember when I went for the test drive in the 320d. Torque was amazing but the gear shifts were horrible to me. I don't know if it was the shifter but it was very jerky changing gears.

Now I know this is the BMW forum but a car I REALLY want is the Jaguar XF. :)

Its called 'clutch control'... :) When I got the Dynamic I think I stalled it about three times while still on BMW's premises... :slap: Now...Im like a racing driver, feathering the gas pedal, double clutching, heel and toe.. the whole shebang! Takes a bit of getting used to... but now.. oh baby.. :)

@Killua, thanks for the Car Torque program mate  Had a few very interesting graphs... Just proving again that that the 135kw/380nM 320d can run with some BIG boys!

@AZZ... If you have nothing to do over the weekend, the Dybamic can do with a good polish...and a wash. :)

BMW M for President!!!!:clap::clap:

When I become President, all Potholes will be fixed, some a-holes shut up, a increase in the general Highway speedlimit and a Autobahn to all the major Metros in SA with no speedlimits, infact, you will be fined for going slower than 160km/h :)

A vot for BWM M is a vote for BMW-Freedom! :pimp:

Most of you guys are used to six cylinder Beemers with lots of torque and power. However how would you rate a 320i Auto as a family car primarily used for comfort and suburban driving? Surely things like the navigation, 'push to start', the BMW feel etc totally outweighs the fact that a 1600 can pull faster off the line. Or is the 320i really THAT painful to drive.

Its a 3 series so at the end of the day its a great car and is luxury. Will lived with a 320i manual for a while and really it was a great car but like you said if you use to power then thats the only downside, We had it in red and sports pack so the thing just looked great. If you drive it as a family car then i dont see it as that bad power wise.

Just dont load the family in... :mmm: Because then you have to cut holes in the floorboard and use it as a Flintstone car... :)

Seriously, in general the 320i's are very well speced with extras, and not too thirsty if you dont drive it like its stolen (They'll catch you anyway...) But the lack of power in it for me is a HUGE problem. It makes the car way less fun to drive, and overtaking in situations where some OOMPH is needed... Dont even think about it, specially with the Auto.

I say each to his own, some prefer beef, some chicken.

It is still a Good luxury BMW. My one friend has a 320i and he loves it, he hardly ever bother with going fast. In the end it is your choice if you dont mind living with the lack of power, I mean its yours and you paying for it. So lets not play the juppy game some other German car brand owners I know.

We all share the smae passion for the white and blue badge.

Once I have my cats removed I'll be able to take on 320d's and 325's. I can't wait. Oh wait, no, that isn't going to happen but I should feel happier about the speed. So far everyone I've spoken to have said that it makes a BIG difference. So we'll see.
