Hi Guys,

I know I have asked this question before, however I have had a clutch replacement done on the car and still the problem persists. I sent the car to a prominent BMW dealership in Bryanston, who got a "BMW SA" technician out to have a look at the problem. They just got back to me to tell me that this is normal, how is this possible when 2 weeks ago we test drove a similar year car and whilst idling in neutral the car never made a sound from the gearbox/undercarriage. Can someone (Technically inclined) please assist. I am serious contemplating taking these jokers to the local papers as I strongly believe they are just making excuses. :argh::argh::argh::argh:

if the noise goes away when you put the clutch back in then its probably the flywheel or release baring...

i would just take it to another dealer if its under MP you dont have to pay

Dealership replaced the flywheel and the clutch, not sure if the release bearing was replaced. Is the release bearing replaced as standard practice?

the release bearing is part of the clutch kit so it would have been replaced... i dont know what else it could be...

still think you should take it to another dealer seeing as you wont be paying anyway... just complain and say the other dealer is useless see if they can fix the problem...

Will give it a try, how is the service at BMW Sandton?

What kind of noise is it? When in neutral with the clutch disengadged and you rev the car is there a noise that sounds similar to something loose / spinning?

As moranor said, sounds like its most likely the release bearing...

Hope you come right!

Any chance of taking a good vid of the noise? Ideally when the car is parked next to a wall so that the noise is reflected and easier to hear...

Well I might just add here that the input shaft on BMW gearboxes tend to make a clattery noise, possibly this?
