hi guyz

i have a 05 n46 120i, not running

i'm looking for advises regarding the engine repairs
i'm opting for restoring with an import costing R22,5k

another option is to rebuild the current motor ,but there are some staffs missing (pistons, head stripped)

Some1 is selling a used motor(head ,block and sump) for 10k

any advice ???

thanks:ty:

What's up boss,
You're best bet is getting a locally reconditioned head and block with new internals and new sump. Obviously with new gaskets. Maybe you can refurbish the crankshaft if it isnt too damaged. To save some cash on fuelling try getting a used HPFP but dont compromise on injectors. I would look at getting aftermarket crankshaft bearings as well as changing to Shell Fully synthetic oil(most easily available as every shell petrol station keeps them 24/7)
Keep us updated :D

Would an import motor not be a better choice
the thing is im afraid of going through that paperwork term, its juss so stressful !!

To be honest trying to fix the motor how you want to might be very expensive. of just do a lexus V8 swap :fencelook:

Jap Engine and Gearbox will definitely be able to sort you out. Best place to start is with part numbers.
Get a list from BMW service shop and give it to Jap auto. Not sure who's going to rebuild the engine for you but I've used SR Speedworx for years and they've rebuilt the most premium BMW motors.

Alibaba is Wholesale.

You need to shop on Aliexpress which is the same people just for Single purchases.

I bought on Aliexpress, Stuff is cheap and its reliable.. tracking numbers etc.

It gets expensive when it lands in our beloved country. Car parts have a high import tax from what i noticed... cannot remember percentage and how they calculate what they going to tax you

Such a complicated motor you have. Rebuilding will be more expensive. Buy a used motor...fix the car and sell as soon as you can. N46 is the worse engine made by bmw...just my view.

previous owner that had my car, had the motor rebuilt then it failed and then put another motor and it also failed so he replaced it with a toyota V8 lol

good day

so we have installed used motor, the engine swings, Spark is there on all coil packs, fuel is coming in and also shoots from the nosles all 4,but it does not start, it gives a pick as it wants to run and dies, goes again on the next revolution

any idea to go further on this ?
